A convicted felon from Redding was arrested early Tuesday morning after an officer found him and another subject passed out in their car at a gas station with a loaded pistol.

According to the Redding Police Department (RPD), Officer Tim Jaegel found two subjects passed out in their car at a gas station on Eureka Way. The officer spoke to the occupants and learned the driver, identified as Charles French, 56, of Redding has a warrant for his arrest. RPD says they also learned French was on Post Release Community Supervision (PRCS).

While searching French's car, Officer Jaegel found a loaded 9mm pistol on the passenger seat, within French's reach.

French was then arrested for multiple felony and misdemeanor charges and booked into the Shasta County Jail.

The passenger, found passed out in the back seat, was released without charges.
