Overview

The Government Employees Insurance Co. now known as Geico was founded in 1936. Its goal was to provide insurance for government employees, but it later expanded to serving the general public. It still offers special discounts to government employees.

Berkshire Hathaway, Geico’s parent company, is the second-largest car insurance company in the nation. The July 2022 National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) report shows that the company has 14.3% of the market share nationwide.
