Banks and Beals Funeral Home obituary - Judith K. Dowell, 80, Lomax, Ill.

Judith Kay Dowell, 80, of Lomax, Illinois passed away June 20, 2020 at the Great River Hospice House, West Burlington, Iowa,

Judy was born on March 22, 1940 in Fort Madison, Iowa, the daughter of Jestus and Genevieve Reid. On July 29, 1956 she married Willis "Bud" Dowell at the Christian Church in Dallas City.

Judy was a talented cosmetologist who worked in several salons before working at Sheaffer Pen for many years. Judy was an accomplished self taught musician and could play any instrument she picked up. She played the organ and piano at the Pontoosuc Community Church for over 30 years and enjoyed entertaining in local nursing homes. Judy loved to ride horses, play cards, BINGO and doing crafts. Judy painted, decorated cakes and did ceramics. She was an avid swimmer at the YMCA and loved swimming at her house with her grandkids.

Judy is survived by her husband; sisters, Darlene Shriver, and Sharon (Harry) Scanlan; sister-in-law, Helen Reid; four children, Linda (Bill Merschbrock) of Fort Madison, Sarah Rashid of Fort Madison, William (Lori) Dowell of Burlington and Kelly (Nancy) Dowell of Fairhope, Alabama; fourteen grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; special caretaker and sister-in-law, Penny (Chad) Monroe and several nieces and nephews.

Judy was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Jess Reid; son-in-law, Kenneth Rashid and two great-grandchildren, Madison and Chance Doss.

A private graveside service will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, June 27, 2020 at the Carman Cemetery, Carman, Illinois. A memorial fund has been established for the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or the Lomax Fire & Ambulance Departments. Memorials may be sent to Banks & Beals Funeral Home, P.O.
