In 2019, Blue Cross NC announced an agreement with UNC Health Alliance that made UNC Health Alliance Blue Cross NC’s in-network provider for the greater Triangle region. This agreement was the foundation for a plan called “Blue Value with UNC Health Alliance” and helped lower pre-subsidy costs by $140 a month in 2019.  In 2020, there are changes that Blue Value members in the Triangle need to know for the coming year.  Bottom line: Blue Value is now Blue Home in 10 North Carolina counties.

In 2020, BCBS NC Members in the Triangle will move from this Blue Value with UNC Health Alliance plan to “Blue Home with UNC Health Alliance”.

“Blue Value with UNC Health Alliance” will not be offered in 2020.

The newly named Blue Home will also mean network changes for 2020.

Through the partnership with UNC Health Alliance, BCBSNC will be reducing rates for Triangle customers by an average of more than $200 a year before subsidies. This averages out to a savings of early $1,900 a year before subsidies for the last two years.

You’ll still have access to high-quality doctors and facilities within the UNC Health Alliance system. However, some independent providers in the Triangle will become out-of-network. And unlike Blue Value, Blue Home with UNC Health Alliance is not a statewide network. Therefore, you will not have in-network options for non-emergency care if you travel where UNC Health Alliance isn’t available.

Blue Home members will have the following In Network Hospitals: UNC Hospitals at Chapel Hill, UNC REX Healthcare in Raleigh, Chatham Hospital, Johnston Health Services, Pardee Memorial Hospital, Caldwell Memorial Hospital, UNC Lenoir Hospital, Nash Hospitals, Wayne Memorial Hospital, and UNC Rockingham Health Care.
