Why do I need bicycle insurance and other specialist insurance products for cycling?

Our specialist bicycle insurance, for more than ten years, has been covering your equipment for theft and crash damage. We can protect your bike when riding, racing or training worldwide. Our travel insurance primarily covers medical expenses abroad and trip cancellation, on top of lots of other premium features. Our health insurance covers you if you fall ill in the UK, providing a broader range of options for treatment locations and schedules compared to the NHS; this includes faster, more convenient access to treatment.

Across three tiers, our cycle Insurance covers you against bicycle theft and crash damage, alongside numerous other benefits as standard. You can choose from annual or short-term policies.

Our cycle travel insurance covers, trip cancellation, medical expenses and repatriation in the event of an accident abroad, on top of lots of other features you’d expect from a travel insurer, but it won’t cover your bicycle.

Our health insurance covers you if you fall ill in UK, providing a broader range of options for treatment locations and scheduling compared to the NHS. This includes faster, more convenient access to treatment.

We offer three cycling packages -

If you need to make a cycle insurance claim, you won’t be read a script by someone who doesn’t know what they’re doing. Our customer-driven claims process is managed completely in house, meaning knowledge and expertise are guaranteed.

We don’t believe you should be put off making an insurance claim, just because you’re worried your premiums might go up. With a Yellow Jersey push bike insurance policy, we don’t charge you extra at renewal even if you’ve made a claim. When you renew you’ll get the same basic rate as a new customer, but we’ll apply a 25% renewal discount to your premium.

You pay the full premium for your most expensive bike, then we apply a 60% multi-bike insurance discount for every bike you add after that. Twinned with our family cover (included in all of our bicycle insurance policies) this means you can save a good chunk when insuring all of the push bikes in your household together.

Crash damage is likely excluded on your home insurance and almost certainly if you’re competing. With Yellow Jersey’s cycle insurance, you’re covered. Our Essentials tier covered crash damage out and about, Performance extends this to Europe and while riding in events like Sportives, and Ultimate extends this worldwide and includes racing.

If we can discourage bicycle theft, we can lower premiums for everyone. We give new annual bicycle insurance customers a free DNA+ bicycle security marking kit worth £36 with their policy. These make stolen bicycles traceable and prove that they are stolen property making them less desirable for thieves.

We’ll make sure everything is up to scratch if your bike is damaged through vandalism.

Whether your pedal cycle is stolen from home, work or elsewhere you’re covered – even if you lend it to a member of your family who lives with you. We just ask that you follow our really simple bicycle locking requirements.

We don’t depreciate bicycle value, so the price you paid is the value we will cover your bike for regardless of how long you’ve owned it.

All of our cycle insurance packages cover you for physio, dental and permanent injury.

Yellow Jersey is the official supplier to the British Triathlon Federation, Ride London and Cycling UK. We provide bicycle insurance to competitors at some of the biggest cycling and triathlon events in the UK, including the Castle Triathlon Series, Tour of Cambridgeshire, Outlaw Triathlon and many more.

Our British cycling insurance isn’t restricted to the UK. Performance level cycle policy can cover your bicycles within Europe for leisure, training camps and racing. Our Ultimate tier covers your bike worldwide.

All three bicycle insurance tiers include cycling liability insurance to protect you and your family members against third-party claims up to £2m whilst riding any insured bicycle. Our Performance and Ultimate policies also cover the named policyholder for public liability claims whilst riding any bicycle: e.g. a holiday hire bike or Santander Cycles. We think this is one of the most important aspects of a cycle insurance policy, and that’s why we include it as standard for everyone.

Whilst crash damage is covered across the board, racing is not covered in either the Essentials or Performance packages.
