Dental treatment

Our Complete cat insurance policy covers dental accidents and illness, as long as your cat’s had a dental check-up within the last twelve months, and you’ve followed any dental treatment recommended by a vet within six months. All our other policies cover dental accidents.

Cover for pre-existing conditions

All of our cat insurance policies provide cover for conditions that haven’t needed treatment for two years or more. But what if your cat’s had a more recent injury or illness? That’s where our dedicated Pre-existing policy steps up.

Here’s how it works. We’ll provide up to £1,500 of cover for a previous medical condition within a wider vet fee limit of £7,000, as long as your cat has been free from symptoms, treatment or vet advice for that issue for three months.

Once we cover a pre-existing condition, we won’t stop, no matter how often treatment is needed.

Multi-pet insurance

Got more than one cat (or dog) to cover? We’ll give you a discount of up to 15% for pets on the same policy – available on all but our Value 2k policy. That’s one of the highest multi-pet discounts in the UK.

How much does cat insurance cost?

In the UK, the cost of insuring your cat can depend on:

The best way to find out exactly how much it’ll cost to insure your cat is to get a quote – it only takes a few moments.

Does where you live impact the cost of cat insurance?

The cost of vet and medical treatment varies around the country, which means your home address can affect how much you pay for cat insurance.

Is pet insurance more expensive for older cats?

Generally, the cost to insure a one or two year old cat is less than the cost of insuring an older cat.

Your insurer may also ask you to pay around 20%-35% of the cost of any claims for cats aged over nine years old. This is called a co-payment.

Most of our policies are available for cats of any age and we ask owners of cats over nine to cover 20% of any claims.

Many people see the cost of their cat insurance increasing over time, and feel that the insurance company is acting unfairly – but higher costs for older cats reflect the fact that visits to the vet and medical treatment are more likely.

Some owners opt to 'self-insure' by paying a fixed amount into a savings account each month, so that there is a reserve to draw on if their cat gets sick, instead of continuing to pay the insurance premium. The risk is that you may need vet treatment before your savings have built up or the cost of treatment will be higher than what you've saved.

Are cat vaccinations covered?

No, vaccinations aren’t covered by cat insurance because they are classed as routine procedures.

Is death covered?

We have two limits related to death. All our cat insurance policies include £300 if your pet has to be put to sleep. It is your choice how you use it, it could be used to cover the cost of putting your cat to sleep and for pet cremation or memorial costs.

We have a separate limit that can pay out the value of your cat if they pass away because of an accident or illness. There is a £6,000 limit included in our Complete policy as standard and our other cat insurance policies, apart from Value, offer up to £1,500 as an add-on. Please check our policy documents as there is an age limit for some death claims.

Is cat insurance mandatory in the UK?

Cat insurance isn’t compulsory in the UK and you don’t legally have to have it. But it can give you peace of mind that you can pay expensive vet bills and medical treatment costs and get your cat back to health.

Can cats have life insurance?

There are no life insurance policies for cats, although our pet insurance policies can offer a payout if your cat passes away, similar to life insurance. Our Complete policies includes up to £6,000 cover for death as standard and our other policies offer lower limits as an add-on. Please read our policy documents because some death claims have an age limit.

Is there an age limit or age restrictions to cat insurance?

We love cats of all ages and therefore have no upper age limit! As long as your cat is over 4 weeks old, we can provide a policy for you.

Will my cat be covered if it’s lost or stolen?

We can offer Lost or Stolen cover on most of our policies. The Lost or Stolen cover is included as standard on our Complete policy, or can be added as an optional extra on the others in our range.

What type of cat insurance policy do I need?

If your cat hasn’t needed vet treatment, medicine or advice for a medical condition within the last two years, they’ll be eligible for any of our Complete, Regular or Value policies.

Our Pre-existing policy can provide cover for a cat that’s had a more recent health issue.

Does cat insurance cover spaying and neutering?

Cat insurance is designed to cover unpredictable accidents and illnesses, so routine procedures like spaying and neutering aren't included on our cat insurance policies.

What do I need to get a cat insurance quote?

Getting a cat insurance quote is easy. All you need to tell us is:

Can cat insurance be transferred to a new owner?

Yes, we can transfer a cat insurance policy to a new owner via My Account. Just log in and click on ‘Cancel policy’ then ‘My pet has a new owner’ when asked to give a reason. You’ll be asked if you would like to transfer ownership, which will reveal a code to share with your pet’s new owner.

The new owner should then get in touch with our Customer team with the policy number and code – we’ll take it from there.
