NFL Week 7 picks: Predictions for New York Giants vs. Philadelphia Eagles | Who gains ground in NFC East?

The race for the lowly NFC East title will continue on Thursday Night Football in Week 7.

The Eagles (1-4-1) will host the similarly struggling Giants (1-5) at Lincoln Financial Field on a short week.

The Eagles are coming off a failed comeback effort against the dominant Baltimore Ravens, while the Giants collected their first win of the season against Washington in Week 6.

The Eagles are barely holding onto a second-place standing in the division behind the Dallas Cowboys (2-4), and the Giants could leap Philadelphia in the standings with an upset win on the road.

Will the Eagles pick up momentum in the NFC East race? Or, will the Giants take the second-place baton from their rivals? Here’s what our NJ Advance Media writers think:

The Eagles have shown a lot of fight over the past two weeks against far superior opponents. While Philadelphia has played poorly this season, so have the Giants. The Eagles are in better shape to rebound because of their recent history and the veterans on their roster. While they are beaten up and struggling to start games, the Eagles are still better on both sides of the ball.

Look for quarterback Carson Wentz to use his legs to get the offense moving early on. Eventually, breakout playmaker Travis Fulgham will make a pair of game-changing plays, and a returning DeSean Jackson will put together a fourth-quarter highlight reel to push the Eagles over the edge in primetime.

Chris Franklin: Eagles reporter, NJ Advance Media

Despite only two of the 11 opening day starters remaining on the field at the end of the game, the Eagles offense was able to put up 28 points against the Baltimore Ravens. Giants quarterback Daniel Jones could be running around a lot of to avoid the Eagles pass rush. Even with all of the injuries and a short week to prepare, the Eagles win big in front of a national audience.

What a stupid Thursday night game. The Giants barely snuck by the Washington Football Team to get Joe Judge his first win, but nobody should be leaving that game feeling confident that Big Blue turned their season around. The Eagles are an injury-induced mess, but still have more talent than the Giants in most areas. The biggest concern for New York: That Eagles defensive line remains disruptive with Fletcher Cox, Brandon Graham, Javon Hargrave and Derek Barnett presenting obvious problems for an inconsistent Giants offensive line. Daniel Jones almost never throws the ball down the field, which would be ideal going against a defense prone to giving up big plays. Jason Garrett hasn’t adjusted yet, so why expect him to now?

PICK: Eagles 23, Giants 13

Chris Ryan: Jets reporter, NJ Advance Media

The Eagles have no excuse to lose this game. They’re the better team across the board, and even some good vibes from the Giants after Joe Judge’s first win shouldn’t be enough to propel them past the Eagles. If Philly can’t get it done here, the Cowboys might actually run away with the division with six wins.

The Giants finally got Joe Judge a win Sunday, with a little help from Ron Rivera’s gambling ways. It’s pretty clear the Eagles are the superior team here, but will they play like it? They certainly haven’t played up to their talent level so far in 2020. Still, they just hung with the Ravens, and they should have no problem improving to 12-1 against the Giants since 2014. The Eagles have won seven straight games against the Giants. It’s about to be eight in a row.

The sky is falling in Philadelphia, and the only cure is NFC East games. The Eagles haven’t lost to the Giants since 2016. Doug Pederson does his best coaching on short weeks, and the injury-ravaged Eagles find a way to get a win.
