Virginia Clyde Dodd

Virginia Clyde Dodd (Jinnie Clyde) age 79. A resident of De Queen, Arkansas went to be with her Lord and Savior at the Bear Creek nursing home on April 25, 2024.

She was born on September 27, 1944, in Mobile, Alabama. She enjoyed spending time with her grandkids, watching her favorite show TBN, and listening to Christian music.

Virginia was preceded in death by her parents Charles and Martha Carlton, second husband, James Gass, Jr.; her brother Edward Carlton, and her son, Gary Bridges.

She is survived by five children, Ed Bridges and wife Mia, James Gass and wife Kristin, Jon Gass and wife Heather, Jeremy Gass and wife, Charlotte, and Crystal Dickerson and husband, Branden. Grandkids Jonathan, Cody, Eden, Elena (husband Timmy), Brandon, Haven, Nathan, Phoebe, Brooklyn, Jasper, Kylo, Isaiah, McKayla, Pierson, Maddox, Rhett, Allie, and Lane. Great grandkids, Paisley, AJ, and Auroa, and one on the way; and three nephews, Sean, Joseph, and Scott Carlton.

Funeral services for Ms. Dodd will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, April 29, 2024, in the Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. James D. Copp officiating. Burial will follow at Redmen Cemetery, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home in De Queen.

Mrs. Louise Icenhower

Mrs. Jessie Louise Icenhower, age 78, a resident of De Queen, and former resident of Dierks, Arkansas, passed from this life on Tuesday, April 23, 2024, in the Baptist Health Medical Center at Conway, Arkansas surrounded by her family.

She was born to Ollie S. and Jessie Cure Stover on April 13, 1946, in De Queen, Arkansas. She was a 1964 graduate of De Queen High School and went on to receive her LPN. She married the love of her life, Darrel Phillip Icenhower in De Queen, Arkansas, on August 21, 1964, and to this union, four children were born. She was a member of the Holly Creek Missionary Baptist Church and enjoyed reading, poetry, gardening, mowing the yard, hunting and anything that had to do with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.

Louise was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 55 years, Darrel Phillip Icenhower, a sister, Mary Parker, and a brother, Ollie Joe Stover.

She leaves to cherish her memory, a daughter and son-in-law, Deborah and Brett Lowrey of Conway, Arkansas; three sons and daughters-in-law, Anthony and Kendra Icenhower of De Queen, Jerramy and Britney Icenhower of Conway, Arkansas, and Jason and Amanda Icenhower of Dierks, Arkansas; twelve grandchildren and their spouses, Lauren and Jarrod Corn, and Kaitlyn and Matthew Johnston all of Fayetteville, Arkansas, Kale and Heather Icenhower of Benton, Louisiana, Sierra Wheeler and her fiancé, Omar Naser of Conway, Arkansas, Chris and Lindsey Icenhower, Jalen Key, P. J. Icenhower, and McKenna Icenhower all of Dierks, Arkansas, Teslee and Shawn Barkes of Newhope, Arkansas, Sydney Icenhower, Ty Icenhower, and Bo Icenhower all of Conway, Arkansas; ten great-grandchildren, Audrey Corn, Caleb Corn, Parker Johnston, Brooks Johnston, Adalyn Icenhower, Mary Reed, Gracie Reed, Scarlett Icenhower, Briar Key, and Aviana Barkes; three great-great-grandchildren, Hudson Lowrey, Ila Lowrey, Raygen Baggs; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Jasper and Joy Mika Stover of Texarkana, Texas, and Henry and Renie Stover of Hamser, Idaho, as well as a number of nieces, nephews, other family members and a host of friends.

Mr. Don Higgins

Mr. Donald “Don” Marvin Higgins, age 77, a resident of De Queen, died Thursday, April 18th, 2024.

He was born January 6th, 1947, in Gillham, Arkansas. Don was a 1964 graduate of Gillham High School and attended Henderson State Teachers College, where he graduated from Henderson with his teacher’s license. He coached at Bright Star, Arkansas for several years, worked at Baldwin Piano Company, Coy Wiles Conoco, and then returned to his passion of teaching and coaching. Don taught and coached at De Queen School District for over 15 years. Don was a member of the De Queen Church of Christ. Even though he loved and excelled at baseball and basketball in school, Coach Higgins’ passion was running. An avid lifelong runner (before running was cool), he accomplished much, running many marathons including the New York City Marathon and Pikes Peak Marathon. He used his love of running to start the cross-country program at De Queen, where he went on to win four state championships. He was inducted into the Arkansas Road Runners Hall of Fame in 2006 for outstanding contributions for road running in Arkansas. Coach Higgins was integral in starting the soccer program at De Queen High School, which has gone on to have great success and multiple state championships. He touched many lives, from the many kids he coached to the friendships he made in the running community.

Don is preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Cheryl Higgins, his sister, Becky Styles, and parents Hazel Whitley and Marvin Higgins.

He leaves to cherish his memory a son, Matt Higgins of Hot Springs; two daughters and sons-in-law, Sally and Chet Pinkerton of Newport, Arkansas, and Susan and Mike Bishop of Fort Smith, Arkansas; four grandchildren, Althea Bishop. Cassidy Bishop, John Allen, and Clay Allen; as well as his niece, Missy and Steven Hughes of Germantown.

Funeral Services for Mr. Don Higgins will be held at 10:00 A.M., Monday, April 22nd 2024, in the Chandler Funeral Home Chapel, with Mike Bishop and Bob Ward officiating. William Kesterson

Mr. William Sherrill Kesterson, age 78, a resident of Lockesburg, Arkansas, passed away Saturday, April 20, 2024, at Pleasant Manor Nursing and Rehab in Ashdown.

He was born on September 28, 1945, in De Queen, Arkansas. He was a member of Rockhill Baptist Church. Mr. Kesterson was a self-employed logger. He loved his church, coaching his kids in little league baseball, and enjoyed hunting and fishing,

Mr. Kesterson was preceded in death by his parents, William Olen and Marilyn Faye Smith Kesterson; his wife, Linda Kesterson; two sisters, Debra Perez and Sherri Schoolfield; one brother, Benny Kesterson.

He is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Kevin and Lori Kesterson and Cole Kesterson all of Lockesburg; one stepdaughter and stepson-in-law, Melynie and Nathan O’Rorke of Genoa, Arkansas; one sister, Sandra Kesterson of Chickasha, Oklahoma and a number of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and a host of friends.

Doris Ann Kirby

Doris Ann James Kirby, age 91, a resident of Dierks, Arkansas passed away surrounded by family at her home on Thursday, April 18, 2024.

She was born on March 8, 1933, in Nashville, Arkansas. She enjoyed Razorback basketball, spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and loved gardening.

Doris was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Ruth James; her husband, Rex Kirby and infant great-granddaughter, Brylee Lynn Stapp.

She is survived by three children, Quinn and Annette Osborn, David Osborn, Lisa and Kevin Redden all of Dierks; six grandchildren, Brittany Hatridge of Lockesburg, AR, Joey and Amber Osborn of Nashville, AR, Cody and Kim Stapp of Berryville, AR, Jon and Whitney Stapp of Lockesburg, Tyler and Jacy Redden of Gun Barrel City, Texas, Trevor and Autumn Redden of Gun Barrel City, Texas; ten great-grandchildren, Lexi Neal, Will Neal and Kyzer Bush of Lockesburg, Bentley Osborn, Braelyn Osborn of Nashville, Creighton Stapp, Creed Stapp of Berryville, Zaylee Stapp, Asher Stapp of Lockesburg, Jaityn Redden of Gun Barrel City, Texas.

Elias Ocampo

Mr. Elias Ocampo, age 72, a resident of De Queen, passed from this life on Monday, April 15, 2024 in CHI St. Vincent Hospital, Hot Springs, Arkansas , surrounded by his family.

He was born in San Vicente, Norte, Guerrero, Mexico, on April 17, 1951. Elias married his beloved wife in Mexico on December 23, 1971, was a retired employee of Pilgrims. Mr. Ocampo was a faithful member of St. Barbara’s Catholic Church. He enjoyed reading, praying, his vegetable garden, farming, listening to music, attending church, praying the rosary, but his best spent time was with his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and a son, Pablo Ocampo.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife, Rosit Ocampo of De Queen; three sons, Rene and his wife, Maria M. of De Queen, Simon Ocampo and his wife, Maria G. of Horatio, Arkansas, and Bernardo Ocampo and his wife, Amalia of De Queen; three daughters, Luisa and her husband, Roberto Escobedo, Juana and her husband, Ismael Hernandez, and Reyna Ocampo all of De Queen; thirteen grandchildren; Sheyla, Britney, Berenice, Alexandra, Fernanda, Jacob Elias, Emmanuel, Angel, Ezequiel, Vanessa, Ricardo, Alejandro, and Gabriel; four great-grandchildren; Allison Milagros, Romeo Juan Pablo, Eliseo, and Emmanuel Jose; one sister, Sara Ocampo of De Queen, and a number of nieces, nephews, other family members and a host of friends.

El señor Elías Ocampo, de 72 años, residente de De Queen, falleció de esta vida el Lunes 15 de Abril del 2024 en el hospital CHI. St. Vincent en Hot Springs, Arkansas, rodeado de su familia.

El nació en San Vicente Norte Guerrero, México el día 17 de Abril del año 1951. Elías se unió en el sacramento de el matrimonio con su amada esposa en México el 23 de Diciembre del ano 1971, y fue empleado retirado de Pilgrim’s. El señor Ocampo fue un fiel miembro de la iglesia católica de Sta. Barbara en De Queen, Arkansas. El disfrutaba sembrar, leer, rezar, escuchar música en su grabadora, barbechar, ir a misa y rezar el rosario, pero su mejor pasatiempo fue estar reunido con su amada esposa, hijos, nietos, y bis-nietos.

El fue precedido en la muerte por sus papas Isabel Ocampo-Salgado y Natividad Bahena-Calderon, y su hijo Pablo Ocampo.

Nadine Allen

Mrs. Audrey Nadine Talley Allen, age 77, resident of Haworth, Oklahoma, passed peacefully from this life on Saturday, April 13, 2024, at her home with family by her side.

Nadine was born one of five children to Hudie Ernest and Alice McGough Talley on August 25, 1946, in Goodwater, Oklahoma. Nadine was a 1964 graduate of Haworth High School and went on to attend college courses. After receiving her education, Nadine went to work for the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) as a quality inspector. With the USDA, Nadine worked in a number of different facilities but spent the majority of her career at Pilgrim’s Pride in De Queen, retiring after many years of dedicated service. Nadine was a member of Little River Community Church and enjoyed reading, going to church, riding around with her dogs, and picking on her family and friends. Nadine best spent her time with her children and grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband, Robert Ridens; one brother, James Talley; and her beloved pups, Gizmo and Weirdo.

Nadine leaves to cherish her memory, one son, Chad Allen of Haworth; two grandchildren, Sara Allen of Horatio, and Cody Allen of Haworth; five great-grandchildren, TJ Allen, Sakura Allen, Beau Allen, Xzavier Allen, and Carma Allen; one brother and sister-in-law, Doug and Carolyn Talley of Eagletown; two sisters, Ernestine Watson of De Queen and Mary Hatfield of Horatio; special friends, Brandon Blackmon and Pat Brinkley; as well as a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and a host of friends.

Alvie “Wayne” Harder

Alvie Dewayne “Wayne” Harder, age 72, a resident of Horatio, Arkansas passed away at home, surrounded by family, on Saturday, April 13, 2024.

Born on August 20, 1951, in De Queen, Arkansas to Alvie Oliver Harder and Lydia Mae Murphy Harder, Wayne was a devout member of Grace Tabernacle in Ashdown.  His passions included deer hunting, camping, and creating memories with his beloved family.

Wayne was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Sherry Southerland Harder; his brothers, Gene Horsley, Bobby Dodson, Dale Dodson, and Dale Harder; and his sisters, Alecia Wilborn, Mary James, Irene Messer, and Louise Bauer. 

He is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife, Doyletta Lindsey Harder of Horatio; his sons, Bobby Harder of Horatio, AR, Joseph Southerland (Devon) of Grand Rapids, MI, and Jason Black of De Queen, AR; his daughters, Kathryn Harder Dykes of Alvarado, TX, Angela Harder of Horatio, AR; his grandchildren, Joseph Southerland, Jr. (Elizabeth), Tascha Southerland, Tiffany Southerland, Lucas Southerland, Chainey Southerland, Stephanie Harder Neal (Layton), Kayla Harder Schatzl (Steven), Shelby Harder, Jordan Barton, Nina Hernandez (Francisco), Trevor Wise, Kabrianna Harder, Morgan Stevens, Collin Adams; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Mary Anne Hicks

Mrs. Mary Anne Parker Hicks, age 72, a resident of De Queen, died Tuesday, April 9, 2024, in the Sevier County Medical Center.

She was born to A. A., Sr. and Dorothy Davis Parker in De Queen, Arkansas, on June 4, 1951. Mary Ann married the love of her life, Charles “Chuck” Hicks in De Queen, Arkansas on June 10, 1967, and to this union, three sons were born. She was a cosmetologist for Bear Creek Healthcare, De Queen, Arkansas, for more than 20 years. She was a professional barrel racer, where she was a member of the IPRA, WPRA, NBHA, and CRRA. Mary Anne had a passion for horses and dogs. She was professional power lifter, but her best time spent was taking care of her sons, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a son, Gary Hicks, and brothers, Mike Reeves, and Dale Reeves.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her husband of 56 years, Chuck Hicks of De Queen; two sons, Charles Stephen Hicks, and Christopher Shawn and his wife, Debra, all of De Queen; seven grandchildren, Kayla and her husband, Chance Pearson of De Queen, Charles Aaron and his wife, Mikala Hicks of Mena, Arkansas, Cara Hicks of Foreman, Grace Zitsleberger of Hooks, Texas, Abigail Hicks of Foreman, Hazin Hicks, and Maverick Hicks both of De Queen; seven great-grandchildren; her brothers and their wives, Ronnie and Noni Reeves of Quincy, Illinois, and A. A., Jr. and Kim Parker of Eagletown, Oklahoma, as well as a number of nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

James Dennis McAdams

Mr. James Dennis McAdams, age 71, a resident of Nashville, Arkansas, died Sunday, April 7, 2024 at Wadley Regional Medical Center in Texarkana, Texas.

He was born June 20, 1952 in Ida, Louisiana.  He was a truck driver and a member of the New Life Church in Nashville. He enjoyed camping and turkey hunting.

Mr. McAdams was preceded in death by his parents, James Hershal McAdams and Mildred (Potts) Barry and one sister, Linda Nettles.

He is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Lisa and Todd Emerson and Kimberly McAdams; one son, Christopher McAdams; one brother and sister-in-law, Leland and Martha Gautney of Nashville; special niece, Samantha and her husband Shane McDowra all of Nashville, AR; six grandchildren, one great-grandchild and a number of nieces, nephews and friends.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Steven Gary Crawford, Sr.

Mr. Steven Gary Crawford, Sr., affectionately called, Steve, a resident of Winthrop, Arkansas, died Friday, April 5, 2024, at his home.

He was one of five children born to Grace Truman and Arlie Ina Murray Crawford in Granite, Oklahoma, on February 1, 1948.  He worked in logistics working for Ruan Transportation for 39 years, where he received the two-million-mile safe driving award.  He later worked for L & J Excavation.  Steve was a member of the Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church.  He enjoyed fishing, and driving, but his passion was playing golf to the point where he had his own three-hole golf course, which he mowed every day.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Eloise McArthur, and a brother, Jerry Crawford.

He leaves to cherish his memory, two sons, Steven, Jr. and Terrie Crawford of Winthrop, Arkansas, and Ronald Wayne and Nicole Crawford of Shorewood, Illinois; a daughter, Michelle Kathleen Worley of Nashville, Arkansas; ten grandchildren, Caleb Crawford (Cora), Kaytlynn Franklin (Keith), Kaci Candler (Jeremy), Courtney O’Connor (Matthew), Kyle Crawford, Cara Crawford, Kimberly Crawford, Corrin Crawford, Jarrah Furr, and Charles Furr; his great-grandchildren, Byron Crawford, Foster Crawford and soon to be, Nolan Crawford; two brothers, Leon Crawford of De Queen, Arkansas, and Glen Crawford and his wife, Daytona of Mena, Arkansas; his special nieces and nephews, Lana and James Van Voast, Joe Crawford, Robin Crawford Dorsey, Lisa and J. Bobby G. Lincoln

Bobby G. Lincoln, 77, peacefully passed away at his home on April 7, 2024.

Born on January 17, 1947, in Arkinda, Arkansas, to Syble and Herman Lincoln, he resided in Haworth, Oklahoma, and attended Winthrop Public School.

Bob married Sharon Eldridge in 1968.

He is survived by his wife, Sharon; daughter, Paula and Chad Teal; son, Jason and Melissa Lincoln; older brother, Sherman and Mary Lincoln; a younger brother, Mike and Kay Lincoln; brothers-in-law, David and Diana McMillian, and Tommy Eldridge. He is also survived by grandchildren, Hunter Bryant, Savannah Lincoln, Lukus Swafford (Teal), and Makayla and Shane Farley; nieces and nephews, including Ronda Lincoln, Lisa and Jason Green, Wendy and Tom Watson, Mitchell Lincoln; a special cousin, Bonnie Chamlee, and many more nieces, nephews, and cousins. Bob is preceded in death by his parents, Syble and Herman Lincoln; brothers, Roy and Billy Lincoln; and granddaughter, Millee Grace Teal.

Floy Allen Smith

Mrs. Floy Allen Smith, age 89, a resident of De Queen, died Wednesday, April 3, 2024, at her home surrounded by her family.

She was one of six children born to Walter Lee and Tompie Vera Willmon Allen. Floy was born on January 5, 1935, in De Queen, Arkansas. After graduating from High School, she worked as a bookkeeper and manager in many companies over the years. She was a member of the Memorial Missionary Baptist Church. She enjoyed cooking, and card games, but most of all, she loved traveling all over the United States with her husband, H.L., and grandchildren in their RV.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, H. L. Smith; her siblings, Joyce Smith, Marlin Allen, and Walter Allen, Jr.; her grandson, Joseph Patman Fox, and two nieces, Angela Needham Hartsfield, and Deborah Allen Love.

She leaves to cherish her memory, one son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Monika Fox of De Queen; Her grandchildren, Randy Fox of De Queen, Tonya Fox of Texarkana, Texas, and Kelsey Fox of Pennsylvania; her great-grandchildren; Tanner Freeman of Texarkana, Arkansas, Taylor Monday of Searcy, Arkansas, Paige Vincent, and Aydan Marbut both of Texarkana, Texas; two great-great-granddaughters, three great-great-grandsons, two sisters; Carolyn Cowling of Springdale, Arkansas, and Marolyn, and her husband, Wendell Needham also of Springdale, Arkansas, a sister-in-law; Barbara Allen of Frisco, Texas, as well as a number of nieces, nephews, other family members and a host of friends.

Dale Gene Simer

Mr. Dale Gene Simer, age 90, a resident of De Queen, Arkansas, died Tuesday, April 2, 2024 in De Queen.

He was born to Dale Robert and Geraldine Nalley Simer in Stringtown, Arkansas, on August 21, 1933. Dale was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, serving faithfully with the U. S. Army. He was retired from Weyerhaeuser, where he was a locomotive mechanic for the D&ETO&E Railroad. He later worked for the U S Postal Service in maintenance. Dale was a member of the Kern Heights Baptist Church, and enjoyed fishing and hunting. He was a lock smith, a gun smith, and rebuilt antique tractors. If it was mechanical, Dale could fix it.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wives, Willie Jean Cox Simer, and Mary Jo Simer; his siblings, Glennie Gower Kabinonski, Alan Simer, Ronnie Simer, Milton Vann Simer, Verna Phifer, and a stepdaughter, Susan Riggs.

Dale leaves to cherish his memory; three daughters, Debbie and Richard Bailey of De Queen, Darla and Joe Smith of Rogers, Arkansas, and Marcie and Randy Hedge of De Queen; one son, Sonny and Tonya Simer of Plummerville, Arkansas; two step-sons and their wives; Richard and Louise Riggs of Chazy, New York, and Bobby and Valerie Riggs of Deland, Florida; one stepdaughter, Janet and her husband Gerald Denson of De Queen, eleven grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren, as well as a number of nieces, nephews, and other family members and a host of friends.

Joe Allen Zanzeberg

Joe Allen Zanzeberg, age 85 a resident of Grannis, Arkansas passed away on Tuesday, April 2, 2024, at his home.

He was born November 15, 1938, in Grannis, Arkansas. He was a member of Grannis Baptist Church. Joe enjoyed going to church, Pruitts, hunting, auctions, visiting with friends, loved a bargain and listening to bluegrass music. He was retired from Tyson Foods.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents, I.Z. and Ruth Lee Lichlyter Zanzeberg;

his wife, Jessie Faye Zanzeberg; one son, Rickey Zanzeberg and infant brother, Jackie Travis Zanzeberg.

He is survived one daughter and son-in-law, Diann and Wayne Wise; one son and daughter-in-law, Fred and Lisa Zanzeberg, one sister, Betty Golden and one daughter-in-law, Melissa Zanzeberg all of Grannis; eight grandchildren, Jason and Gina Goodman of Bentonville, Arkansas, Tiffany Wise of Grannis, Kellie Wise of Bentonville, Arkansas, Carlos and Kayla Rodriguez of De Queen, Chance and Courtney Zanzeberg of De Queen, Jorge and Carrie Abarca of Miami, Florida, Clint and Kim Brown of Broken Bow, Oklahoma, and Heath Zanzeberg of De Queen, Arkansas; thirteen great-grandchildren, Kensley, Meredith, Ale, Tabatha, Brailey, Kyndal, Annalise, Kaitlyn, Axton, Kristian, Colton, Sophie and Everlee and one niece, Retta Smith.

Helen “Kathy” Baker

Helen Katherine “Kathy” Crossland Baker, 72, of Foreman, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loved ones on Monday, April 1, 2024, at home.

She was born on February 23, 1952, in Shasta County, California. She was a member of Prince of Peace in Foreman.

Kathy, our Momma/Mom/Granny, also referred to as Helen or Maw, was best known for her unconditional love and laughter. She had a heart of gold, a feisty spirit and the strongest, most generous, caring soul. She loved music, dancing, and was often the life of any party/gathering. She could make anyone laugh, and did daily, even on her toughest days. She endured a lot of heartache on this earth but never let it dull her spirit or kindness. She loved many as her own and welcomed everyone into her home and her heart. She taught us all how to love without judgement or boundaries. She had a true servant’s heart and was a mother/grandmother/friend to everyone she met. She was a precious soul who leaves a legacy of love to all that knew her.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents, “J.D” Crossland and Kay (Barrett) Beard; her husband, Homer “Dale” Baker, and one son, David Baker; step-father, Pete Beard; and one brother, Thomas McBride.

She is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Sonja and Zon Cowan, Rhonda and Charlie Mac McDonald, and Michelle Baker Smith all of Foreman, AR; grandchildren, Cody Derrick, Chris Derrick and wife Allison, Kylie Cowan and fiancé Hunter White, Kenzie Cowan, Caden Smith, Carson Smith and Corbin Baker Baxley; great-granddaughter, Blakely Derrick; one brother, David Crossland; two sisters-in-law, Sandra Nance and J.B. Ferretiz; and a number of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Mrs. Linda Gillaspy

Mrs. Linda Lou Gillaspy, age 78, a resident of Wickes, Arkansas, passed away from this life on Saturday, March 31, 2024, at her home surrounded by family.

She was born to Sherman Clifford and Opal May Watkins Sanders in Vandervoort, Arkansas, on August 19, 1945. She married the love of her life, Ronald “Ronnie” Lee Gillaspy in Hatton, Arkansas, on June 8, 1963. To this union, three children were born. She and Ronnie were active members of the Baker Rock Church. She worked in many capacities, but her favorite was manager of the Wickes E-ZMart. Linda was very active in her community and was a member of the Wickes Fire Department for 30 years, a member of the Wickes City Council, Wickes School Board, Wickes First Responder. In her youth, Linda enjoyed playing Softball and Basketball, but most of all she enjoyed antiquing, gardening, and watching her children and grandchildren play sports.

Linda is preceded in death by her parents, and her siblings, Roger Dale Sanders, Bobby Gean Sanders, Billie Loyd Sanders, Powell Sanders, Don Sanders, Jack Sanders, Dempsey Sanders, Boyd Sanders, Mary Ball, and Virginia Dansby.

She leaves to her memory, her beloved husband of 60 years, Ronnie Gillaspy; a son and daughter-in-law, Gregory David and Michelle Gillaspy of Saint Cloud, Florida; two daughters and a son-in-law, Dena Gail Stacy, and Tina and Allen McKee, all of Wickes, Arkansas; seven grandchildren, Ashly and her husband, Blake Simmons of Nashville, Arkansas, Shelby Kay and her husband, Kolton Ortiz of Mineral Springs, Arkansas, Nicole and her husband, Reece Womack of Magnolia, Arkansas, Chance Stacy and Konnor McKee both of Wickes, Arkansas, Kaylin, and her husband, Brian Strother of Vandervoort, Arkansas, and Matthew Lee Gillaspy of Saint Cloud, Florida; eight great-grandchildren, Kynlee Shackleford, Channing Shackleford, Brynlee Bagley, Kora Bagley, Lyndyn Ortiz, Hallie Grace Ortiz, Jack Womack, and Hayden Strother; three brothers, Jerry Sanders, and his wife, Kathy, James Sanders, and Dale Sanders, all of Wickes, Arkansas; two sisters, Noice Garner of Elk City, Oklahoma, and Gloria and her husband, A. Kathie Alene Bray

Kathie Alene Bray, age 54, a resident of Dierks, Arkansas died Tuesday, March 26, 2024, at her home.

She was born January 26, 1970, in McKinney, Texas. She lived in Holly Creek, Oklahoma, and then moved to Dierks, Arkansas in 1998. She loved cooking and spending time with her grandchildren and husband.

Mrs. Bray was preceded in death by her grandson, Hunter Lee Bray.

She is survived by her husband of 39 years, James Olen Bray of Dierks, her parents, Gary Don Gray of Dierks and Kathie Ann Gray of Holly Creek, Oklahoma; her children, Britney Nicole Bray of Dierks, AR, David Kyle Bray and wife, Breanna Rachelle Bray of Dierks, AR, Bradley James Bray and Sheena, Marie Bray of Dierks, 13 grandchildren, Braydon James Foran, Braylee Ann Foran, Miranda Kaylene Foran, Destine Marie Jackson, Remington Kyle Bray, Kolton Gage Bray, Carson Lee Bray, Kylee Leeann Bray, Jacob Allen Scott, Hunter Cole Bray, Samuel Clayton Harkleroad, Tyler O’Ryan Harkleroad, and Kyle James Bray; her siblings, Bobby Wayne Gray and wife, Sheri Gray of Dierks, Gary Alvin Gray of Holly Creek, OK, Angela Darlene Deer and husband, Johnny Deer, Robert Don Gray, Richard Edward Gray, and wife Becky Gray all of Dierks and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Michael Wayne Smith

Leonard Max Wittman

Leonard Max Wittman passed away peacefully at his home in Hot Springs on March 27, 2024 one day after his 91st birthday. Max was born on March 26, 1933, in Stuttgart, Arkansas. Max was preceded in death by his father, Leonard J. Wittman, his mother, Wilamena (Rittman) Wittman, and his sister, Patsy Ahrens. Max is survived by his wife of 64 years, Phyllis Goetz Wittman, his daughter, Tracy Dunn and her husband, Steven (Mountain Home), his grandson, Matthew Dunn and his wife, Jessica (Port Richey, FL), and his granddaughter, Katherine Young and her husband, Cole (Tampa, FL) and a niece, Linda Syler (Doug).

Max was raised in Stuttgart, attended St. John’s Lutheran School and graduated from Stuttgart High School in 1951. After high school Max joined the Army and was a veteran of the Korean War. After his discharge from the Army, he attended the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville where he obtained a bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering. It was during this time that he met his wife, Phyllis. After graduation, he and Phyllis moved to DeQueen, where Max worked for Dierks Forests Company and Weyerhaeuser Company as a manager in the Wood Products Division. At the time, there were no Lutheran churches in DeQueen, so Max became a Methodist. He served as chairman of the board at the churches in DeQueen and Hot Springs, and taught Sunday School, led Bible and book studies and served in many other capacities within the church. Over the years, Max has volunteered with the Gideons, served on various civic boards, served as a Stephen Minister and volunteered at The Caring Place.

Max was a friend to many, a wonderful husband, father and grandfather and had a deep and unfailing love for his Savior. He had a good sense of humor, most of it self-deprecating, laughing at himself. In high school he was an excellent athlete and throughout his life maintained a passion for sports and the Arkansas Razorbacks. He also enjoyed duck hunting and fishing and spent many days doing both with his grandchildren. He enjoyed singing hymns, which he often did to inspire his family in the duck blind on those mornings when nothing seemed to be flying. Many wonderful memories were made during the times he spent with his family at his home on Lake Hamilton. Max loved the Lord and rarely missed an opportunity to share his faith with others. Max admonished his family with an ageless, timeless message that we, as believers, are indwelt with the Holy Spirit and God promised to never leave us and never forsake us.

Funeral services will be held at First United Methodist Church in Hot Springs, Arkansas on Friday, April 5, 2024 at 10:00 am with visitation in the Christian Life Center thereafter. After the funeral there will be a burial at Lone Tree Cemetery in Stuttgart, Arkansas at 4:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to The Caring Place, First United Methodist Church of Hot Springs or The Gideons International.

Ruby Lee Vallee

Mrs. Ruby Lee Noey Vallee, age 77, a lifetime resident of De Queen, passed from this life on Wednesday, March 27, 2024, in a Hot Springs Hospital, surrounded by family.

She was born to Earnest Murphy and Jessie Beatrice Stover Noey in De Queen, Arkansas on October 30, 1946. She was a 1964 graduate of De Queen High School and went on to work in many capacities, but her favorite was In School Detention for the De Queen Elementary School for the last eight years. She married the love of her life, Clarence Joseph “Yankie” Vallee on January 15, 1966, in De Queen, Arkansas, and to this union four sons were born. She was a founding member of the Cossatot Volunteer Fire Department, as well as a Boy Scout Leader for our local troop. She was an active member of the Geneva Missionary Baptist Church. She enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, but her best time spent was with her family, especially her grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Yankie, and a brother, Earnest Noey.

She leaves to cherish her memory, four sons and their wives, Robert and Kristy Vallee of Lockesburg, Joseph and Lori Vallee, Michael and Abby Vallee, and Larry and Amber Vallee all of De Queen; thirteen grandchildren, Rachael, Bekah, Russell, Cade, Cooper (Hailey), Cannon, Zachary, Garrett, Walker, Victoria, Gabby, Jack, and Saylor, three great-grandchildren, Bradleigh, Colton, and Chase; her sister-in-law, Jackie Noey of De Queen, as well as other family members and a host of friends.

Jerry Ann Broadwell

Mrs. Jerry Ann Morris Broadwell, age 85, a resident of Horatio, Arkansas died Monday, March 25, 2024, in Sevier County Medical Center in De Queen, Arkansas.

She was born October 14, 1938, in De Queen. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Horatio. She loved her church, cooking, reading, and Razorback sports. She was retired from Wal-Mart.

Mrs. Broadwell was preceded in death by her parents, John Lewis and Effie Mae Kennedy Smith; her husbands, Omagene Morris and Harry Broadwell and one grandson, Jonathan Smith

She is survived by three sons and two daughters-in-law, Quentin and Callie Morris of Nash, Texas, Kenneth Carroll and Joan of Fayetteville, Arkansas and JF and Casey Morris of Winter Garden, Florida; three daughters and one son-in-law, Brenda Kramer of De Queen, Arkansas, Pollyanna and Steve Smith of Horatio, Arkansas and Barbara Batchelor of Kansas City, Missouri; her grandchildren, Jason Morris, Shane Morris, Matthew Carroll, Jack Morris, Conley Morris, Keke Kramer Stafford, Michael Kramer, Amy Kramer McLelland, Jeffery Smith, Joshua Smith, Jacob Smith, Christopher Batchelor, Benjamin Batchelor, Casey Batchelor; 33 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren.

Anthony Lynn Johnson

Anthony Lynn “Tony” Johnson, 64, of Royal, Arkansas passed away on Saturday, March 23, 2024, at Arkansas Heart Hospital in Little Rock, Arkansas.  

He was born on April 16, 1959, in De Queen, Arkansas. He was a service manager for Suttle Equipment for 35 years. He a licensed pilot for 28 years. He loved his Volkswagen cars, loved flying his airplane, and his radio control planes. Tony had special friends and family who filled in the gap when help was needed, his brother-in-law, Howard Covington, his special nephew, Payton Covington, his special friends at Suttle Equipment and Rick and Tina Fleming.

Tony was preceded in death by his parents, Larry Maurice, and Frances June Winton Johnson.

He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Kelley Johnson; one sister and brother-in-law, Tina and Rick Fleming of Eclectic, Alabama; his children, Ashley and Julian Cheramie of Ashburn, Virginia, Jimmy and Shea Young of Conway, Arkansas, Zach and Nicole Young of Maumelle, Arkansas and twelve grandchildren. His dogs Rue and Radar and a special cat that claimed Tony as his own, Rudder.   

Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, March 29, 2024, at Fellowship Cemetery in Dierks, with Tony Griffin officiating, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home in Dierks.

Pallbearers will be Jimmy Young, Zach Young, Payton Covington, Judson Boyd, Bladen Young and Gracie Young. Honorary pallbearers will be Trevor Aucoin and Jaxson Young.

Joyce Earlene Gentry

Mrs. Joyce Gentry passed from this life on March 24, 2024, to begin her eternal life. Joyce battled cancer over the past several years. She passed away at Retreat of Kenwood in Texarkana, Texas.

Mrs. Gentry was preceded in death by her parents, Johnny and Alma Cole; her brother John “Bootney” Cole, sister-in-law Priscilla, and nephew Rob Cole.

Joyce is survived by her husband Johnnie C. Gentry of Texarkana, Texas. She loved being Johnnie’s wife for 40 years. She is also survived by her daughter, Tammy Whatley, Palm Bay, Florida; stepdaughter, Shelly Gentry of Texarkana, Texas; Todd Whatley (Cherie) Texarkana, Arkansas; Leslie Lemley of Hooks, Texas; grandchildren Luke Gentry, Tyler Whatley, and Kayla Whatley all of Texarkana area; and two great-grandchildren. Mrs. Gentry is also survived by her aunt, Marie Adams of Texarkana, Arkansas along with cousins and their families in the Texarkana area. Special family of Tony Kindle of Longview, Texas.

Mrs. Gentry graduated from De Queen High School, De Queen, Arkansas in 1960. She attended Henderson State University. She was the retired office manager of Jackson Pipe and Steele, Texarkana, Texas.

Mrs. Gentry loved her life with her husband, Johnnie. They enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, and traveling. Joyce and Johnnie were avid Carnival Cruisers and traveled to Alaska, Maine, Canada, Europe, Mexico, and several islands in the Caribbeans. She spent time supporting the Vietnam Veterans. Joyce baked numerous cakes each year and gave them to the Veterans, friends at Mc Alisters, Military Recruiting Offices, friends at Ozark Bank of Texarkana, friends at Bob Delgiorno’s KKTK Fox Sports Texarkana, and other special friends. Mrs. Gentry also crocheted numerous blankets for family, friends, and newborn babies. Joyce had a blast going to concerts with her daughter Tammy. Some of her favorites were Kenny Rogers, Blake Shelton, Luke Bryant, George Strait, Brooks and Dunn, Garth Brookes, Tina Turner, and Keith Urban. Her favorite song was “Islands in the Stream” by Kenny Rogers. Joyce thoroughly enjoyed her favorite baseball team, the Texas Rangers and attended many games.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 27, 2024 at 11:00 A.M. at Chapelwood Funeral Home, Kings Highway, Nash, Texas, with Rev. Steve Minter officiating.

Glenna Lee Meadows Ward

Glenna Lee Meadows Ward passed from this life March 16, 2024 in the Sevier County Medical Center. Glenna was born November 29, 1939 in Stearns, Kentucky and was an original “Coal Miner’s Daughter.”

Glenna was a long-time member of the First Baptist Church of Gillham, where in her younger days, she sang many specials as part of a trio with her sister-in-law, Emma Lee Mickle, and family friend, Clarice Roden. She had a passion for music, cooking, and spending time with her family.

Glenna was preceded in death by her parents, Roscoe and Beulah Meadows, two brothers, Zethel (Bud) Meadows and James Meadows; one sister, Wanda Hamblin; a son, Kenneth Paul Ward; two grandsons, Tyrel Ward and Brandon Ward; and one daughter-in-law, Krista Lambert Ward.

She is survived by three sons, Bill Ward of De Queen, Terry Ward and his wife, Pamela, of Mena, Bob Ward and his wife, Angelina, of De Queen; one brother, Lemuel Meadows and his wife Joan, of Winfield, Tennessee; grandchildren, Kristy Rhode of Smyrna, Tennessee, Tessa White of Wickes, Arkansas, Michael Ward of Mena, Arkansas, Kristy Ward of Glendale, California, Kandice Ward of De Queen, Matthew Glasgow of De Queen, Jacob Glasgow of Bakersfield, California, and Kenlee Ward of De Queen. Natasha Elaina Tidmore Brewer, age 48, a Texarkana, Texas resident passed away on Tuesday, March 19, 2024.

Natasha was born July 24, 1975 in Paris, Texas. Tasha was a loving wife (Boo Boo), Mother (Momma), Daughter, Grandmother (TaTa), Sister, Aunt and Friend. She was so full of life and energy with the most infectious laugh and smile. She was a champion of all people she came into contact with, she never met a stranger and could form a bond instantly, people just knew she did not judge and was a true shining light in this world. Her tribe could count on her to be there to pick them up, even if it was at the expense of herself, she truly believed in the inherent good of people. She had a special way with words, she knew exactly what to say to show you she cared and encourage others. She had a heart of gold, especially when it came to animals, her fur babies were loved as much as her human family, her favorite thing was to go to the lake to feed the stray cats and would be there daily with her husband Garry. She shared a life long love of cars with her Daddy and could tell you anything you wanted to know about any car.

She brought out the best in others, but her soulmate, her husband Garry was her shining light, they shared a love that surpassed all trials in life, together for 23 years they are true soulmates.

Her children Jeffery and Caylee were her happy place and she was always there ready to support and love them, she was so proud to be their momma.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles Elvis Tidmore and Frances Yvonne Cummings Martin; and one brother, Rick Minchew.

She is survived by her husband, Garry Brewer of Texarkana; two sons, Jeffery Mitchell and Dusty Brewer of De Queen; one daughter, Caylee Mitchell of De Queen; two brothers, Arnie Tidmore (Victor) of Houston, Texas, Derrick Raney (Anne) of Hugo, Oklahoma; two sisters, Charla Davis (Dwight) of Macclenny, Florida, Dana Nash (Bryce) of Hugo, Oklahoma; granddaughters, Laiken, Bella and Max Brewer; step-mother, Kaye Tidmore of Hugo, Oklahoma, step-father, Rick Martin of Grannis, Arkansas; and a number of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.

James Cory Wildbur

Mr. James Cory Wildbur, age 35, passed away from this life on Wednesday, March 20, 2024, in Broken Bow, Oklahoma.  Cory was born in Texarkana, Texas, on April 7, 1988. Cory graduated from De Queen High School in 2006, where he enjoyed playing sports.  He was a diesel mechanic for Pilgrim’s and attended First Baptist Church of De Queen.  Cory enjoyed fishing and car shows, but most of all, traveling with his daughters.

Cory was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Jackee Andres; and his maternal grandfather, Phillip Piearcy.

Marilyn Jean Yandell Pressley

Mrs. Marilyn Jean Yandell Pressley, age 77, a lifelong resident of De Queen, Arkansas, passed from this life peacefully on Wednesday, March 20, 2024, at home surrounded by her family.

She was born to Lum and Leddie Chandler Yandell in De Queen, Arkansas, on July 11, 1946.  Marilyn married the love of her life, Lonnie L. Pressley on March 31, 1961, in De Queen, Arkansas.  While Lonnie made them a living, Marilyn made the living worthwhile.  She enjoyed painting, gardening, and hummingbirds, but her best spent time was with her family, especially her children, her grandchildren, and her great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her siblings; Bob Gibbs, Betty Perkins, and Leo Yandell, and her husband of over 57 years, Lonnie Pressley.

She is survived by two daughters; Lonnette Taylor of Horatio and Dina and her husband, Bennie Griffin of De Queen; a son, Lonnie (Bud) Pressley, Jr., and his wife, Christa of De Queen; five grandsons; Travis Pressley, Jeffrey Pressley, Dewayne Taylor, and Dustin Taylor, all of De Queen, Jr. Griffin, and his wife, Nichole of Lockesburg; two granddaughters; Darla Fawcett, and her husband, R. B. of Winthrop, Sharla Minor and her husband, P. J. of De Queen; eight great-grandsons; Blaine Pressley, Xander Pressley, Gunner Griffin, Rickar Fawcett, Ryder Fawcett, Riley Fawcett, Jacob Taylor, and Sam Taylor; six great-granddaughters, Lexie Minor, Landrie Minor, Livie Minor, Pressley-Kate Fawcett, Kynder Pressley, and Savannah Taylor; a great-great-granddaughter, Elliana Taylor, as well as other family members and a host of friends.

Charles Benny Deaton

Mr. Charles Benny Deaton, known to family and friends as “Benny” age 76, a resident of Newhope, Arkansas, passed from this life Wednesday, March 20, 2024, in Dierks, Arkansas surrounded by his family.

He was born to Charles Warren and Mary Lucienda Hammock Deaton on November 20, 1947, in Orange, Texas. Benny married the love of his life, Pamela Ruth Whisenhunt at Newhope, Arkansas, on December 23, 1979. To this union two children were born. He was a retired pipeline fitter, and was a poultry grower for Pilgrims. He was a Baptist and enjoyed fox hounds, hunting, fishing, and his best time was spent with his family and fur babies.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Pamela Deaton, and a sister, Melvia Harris.

He leaves to cherish his memory; a son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Jennifer Deaton of Newhope, Arkansas, a daughter and son-in-law, Amy and Heath Bennett of Haskell, Arkansas; four grandchildren, Brian Stuard, Jaylen Stuard, Mazie Bennett, and Bo Bennett, as well as other family members and a host of friends.

Ruth Ione Taylor

Mrs. Ruth Ione McDaniel Taylor, age 92, a resident of  De Queen, Arkansas passed away on Wednesday, March 20, 2024, at Bear Creek Healthcare in De Queen. 

She was born on August 27, 1931, in Dill City, Oklahoma. She enjoyed fishing, playing cards, board games and crocheting. She loved spending time with her family and was a member of the Church of Christ.

Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, James Edward Taylor; her parents, Mariam and Millie McDaniel; one son, Jeffery Don Taylor.

She is survived by her two sons, Jamie Lee Taylor of Searcy, Arkansas and Jerry Wayne Taylor of Lockesburg, Arkansas; one granddaughter and her husband, Camille and Christopher Kean of Lockesburg, Arkansas; one grandson and his wife, Hunter and KayLynn Key of Dierks, Arkansas; four great-grandchildren, Adelae Kean,

Janice Ann Shaw

Mrs. Janice Ann Manasco Shaw, age 76, resident of Lockesburg, Arkansas, passed peacefully from this life on Monday, March 18, 2024, at Pleasant Manor Nursing and Rehab in Ashdown.

Janice was born on July 1, 1947, in Wenatchee, Washington, to Olden Rayford and Bonnie Jean Hunter Manasco, the first of three children. She was a 1965 graduate of Umpire High School, and later, on July 1, 1965, married the love of her life, Jerry Glen Shaw, in New Hope, Arkansas. Janice worked in different capacities over the years including time as a pharmacy clerk, sales and retail, woodworking, and making Christmas décor. She and Jerry often traveled to Canton, Texas to buy and sell their work. She and Jerry were members of the Lockesburg Church of Christ and Janice enjoyed camping, crafts, yardwork, flowers, and gardening. She best spent her time with Jerry, their daughters, and grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her father, Rayford Manasco; her loving husband of over fifty-six years, Jerry Shaw; and her brother, Donnie Manasco.

Joan Marie Compagna

Mrs. Joan Marie Smalley Compagna, age 91, a resident of Wickes, Arkansas, died Monday, March 18, 2024, at her home surrounded by her family.

She was born in Dallas, Texas on December 3, 1932. She received her RN license through Parkland Hospital in Dallas, and in Dallas was where she met and married the love of life, Joseph Gerard Compagna. She worked in the De Queen Medical Center as an ICU RN with 37 years of service. Joan was a member of the St. Barbara Catholic Church and enjoyed fishing, camping, her children’s activities, and playing softball. Most of all, Joan was devoted to family, especially her grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband of over 67 years, Joe Compagna, and a grandson, Justin Watkins.

William “H” Holley

William “H” Holley, 97, was born January 2, 1927, and left this earthly home and entered his heavenly dwelling at 6:35 p.m., March 17, 2024.

William was well known in Possum Hollow for growing the best tomatoes and other produce. He was proud to peddle to locals and took great pride in his garden. He was a great outdoorsman. Spent many hours on the lakes fishing and in his later years could be found on the banks of Star of the West casting a line. For years he kept their freezers full of deer meat too. He loved being out in God’s creation whether it be hunting, fishing, gardening, mowing, tending to his yard, and fruit trees.

William was also one of the last WWII Veterans. He was proud to serve his country and if you had a minute he would tell about his “boat ride” over the big pond during the war. He loved his country, he loved his freedom. He loved his wonderful wife of almost 60 years, he loved his girls and all of his grand and great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George Holley and Mittie Newman Holley, brother Earl Holley, sister Nancy Holley, daughter, Debbie Holley Lawrence, grandson Casey Lee Mackey all of Clinton, Arkansas.

Martha Ann Hullen

Mrs. Martha Ann Carter Hullen, age 90, resident of Heber Springs, Arkansas, and former resident of De Queen, Arkansas, passed peacefully from this life on Saturday, March 16, 2024, at the Baptist Health Medical Center in Heber Springs.

Martha was born on March 6, 1934, in Coban, Oklahoma, to Pete Melvin and Zona Mae Holt Carter, one of four children. Martha was a Homemaker, spending her years raising her children and keeping her home. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in De Queen and was a member of AARP. She enjoyed camping, gardening, sewing, cooking, baking, and playing Bingo. For the last eight years, Martha has been a resident of StoneBridge Assisted Living in Heber Springs. During her time at StoneBridge, Martha led an active lifestyle participating in different activities, including her cherished Bingo time, twice a week. Martha was invited to participate in a senior citizen beauty contest where she was recognized as District Beauty Queen, to later compete at the state level. Martha best spent her time with her loving family and friends at StoneBridge.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Pete Carter and Zona Holt Carter Cox; her husbands, Pete Hicks and F.G. “Jack” Hullen; her daughter, Marsha Ann Wallace; one brother, Murray Dale Carter; and two sisters, Thelma Caplinger and Mary Louise Nichols.

Mrs. Maria Del Gonzalez, age 65, a resident of De Queen, Arkansas passed from this life on Sunday, March 17th at her home, surrounded by her family.

She was born July 4, 1958 in Viesca, Coahiula De Zaragoza, Mexico. She was a former employee of Poulan, as well as a homemaker. Mrs. Gonzalez was of the Pentecostal faith, and enjoyed cooking and her family, especially her grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Benito Aguilera and Maria Dolores Lopez, her husband, Usbaldo T. Gonzalez.

She leaves to cherish her memory, five sons, Usvaldo Gonzalez of Houston, Texas, Jose Gonzalez and his wife, Tasha of Nashville, Arkansas, Mario Gonzalez of Colorado, Benito Gonzalez and Arnulfo Gonzalez both of De Queen, seven grandchildren, as well as other family members.

Sherry Danella Nelson

Mrs. Sherry Danella Ford Nelson, age 61, resident of De Queen, Arkansas, passed peacefully from this life on Thursday, March 14, 2024, in Hot Springs, Arkansas, with her loving family at her side.

Sherry was born one of three children to Dan Russell and Evelyn Avalyne Thomas Ford on November 1, 1962, in De Queen, Arkansas. She was a 1981 graduate of Horatio High School, and later, on June 30, 1988, married the love of her life, James William Nelson, in Horatio. Sherry worked a number of years as a Pharmacy Tech for Harris Drug in De Queen and later in the warehouse at Pilgrim’s Pride in De Queen. She was of the Baptist faith and cherished the time spent with James, their children, and loving grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Evelyn Ford; one brother, Russell “Rusty” Ford; and Chelsea Richardson and Rachelle Easlon, whom she loved as her own daughters.

Keith Allen Busby

Mr. Keith Allen Busby, age 61, a resident of De Queen, died Tuesday, March 12, 2024, in the National Park Medical Center, Hot Springs, Arkansas.

Keith was born in De Queen, Arkansas on July 28, 1962, and was a graduate of De Queen High School in 1980. He attended Cossatot and received his degree in Electronics from Henderson State University. He was a supervisor of fabrication with Husqvarna with 32 years of service. Keith was of the Baptist faith and enjoyed outdoors, hunting, online games, and flying miniature airplanes, but his best time spent was with family and friends.

Keith was preceded in death by his dad, Curtis Cox.

He is survived by a daughter, Callie Jane Busby of Kirby, Arkansas; his mother, Donna Cox of De Queen; his sister and brother-in-law, Carla and Buddy Shelton of De Queen; two nephews, Bryan Shelton and his wife, Ashley of De Queen and Eric Shelton and his wife, Ashley of Mulberry, Arkansas; a great-nephew, Ty Shelton, and a great-niece, Emery Jane Shelton both of De Queen, as well as other family members and a host of friends.

Mr. Milton Morris

Mr. Milton Morris, one of seven children born to Robert Nathan and Tabitha Louisia Morris, passed Sunday, March 10, 2024, at his home surrounded by his family. He was born in Gillham, Arkansas, on August 25, 1941. Milton married the love of his life, Frances Marie Ruth on June 30, 1960. Milton worked in timber all of his adult life, and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Gillham. He enjoyed horseback riding, gardening, selling produce, and woodworking, but his best time spent was with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Milton was preceded in death by his wife, Frances, his parents, a son, Doyle Morris and his siblings, Joyce Hargis, Bobby Morris, Vernon Morris, Keith Morris, and James Carl Morris.

Mrs. Sandi Wilson

Mrs. Sandra Jean Hurst Wilson, affectionately called “Sandi” by family and friends, a resident of De Queen, Arkansas, died Saturday, March 9, 2024, in Texarkana surrounded by her family and friends.

She was born to George W. and Jean Lucy Danforth Hurst in Kansas City, Kansas on August 31, 1946. She received her Master of Arts degree in Clinical Psychology at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, Arkansas. She worked in this profession from 1976 until she retired in the fall of 2023. She married Ray Wilson in De Queen, Arkansas, June 4, 1982, and was a member of the De Queen First Assembly of God Church. She was a member of the Sevier County Chamber of Commerce, and enjoyed sewing, crocheting, and especially painting.

She was preceded in death by her parents George W. Hurst and Jean Lucy Danforth Hurst.

She is survived by her husband of 41 years, Ray Wilson of De Queen; son Jason Jones and wife Jennifer of Springdale; three beloved grandchildren who called her “Nonnie”: Jenna, and Jacob Jones, and Jaxon Conley of Springdale; daughter Leah Hanson and husband Patrick of De Queen; beloved fur-grandbabies: Tigger, Daisy, Snowflake, Astrid, Diana, and Brownie; sister Patty Thompson and husband Jesse of Conway; niece Erin Whitley and husband Shane of Conway; nephew Rhett Thompson of Conway and his son, Maddox Thompson; her sister Alison Brown and husband Bobby of Greenbrier; nephew Brian Edwards and wife Heather and their children, Gordon, and Gray Jones, and Bennett Edwards of Damascus; niece Ashlee Bowden and her husband Ryan and their children, Pearson Massey, Nicole, Zachary, and Oliver Bowden of Mayflower; among many other extended family members and friends.

Ruth Lee Rogers

Ruth Lee Rogers, 71, of Norman, Oklahoma, passed away on March 5, 2024.

She was born January 23, 1953, in Corpus Christi, Texas, to proud parents, Joaquin (Shull) and Gerald Rogers. Daughter of a naval man, she lived throughout the states, finally settling down where she ultimately called home, Norman, Oklahoma.

A graduate of Oklahoma State University, Ruth was a Registered Nurse by trade and remained one at heart after she changed careers later in life. A lifelong animal lover, she spoiled many a’pet and even dabbled in equestrianism. An avid reader, the only time you found her without a book in hand was when they were full of the gifts she would frequently bestow upon those she loved. Ruth rounded out her career as a proud employee of Legal Aid, where she looked forward to each day around the many colleagues she called friends.

Ruth was preceded in death by her father, Gerald Rogers; and mother, Joaquin Rogers.

She is survived by her younger brother, Gerald Rogers and his spouse, Tracy; niece, Kacey Russell and her spouse, Michael and their children, Samuel and Juliet; nephew, Robert Rogers; godson, Masen Almond; cherished friends, Anne Kincaid, Peggy Nelson Laizure, Linda Scott and Molly Gorzney; and beloved cats, Cotton and Hunter.

Ronald Lee Lowrey

Obituary Lovingly submitted by his Granddaughter, Callie Miller Efird.

Mr. Ronald Lee Lowrey, age 81, passed peacefully from this life on Tuesday, March 5th, 2024 with family by his side.

He was born to Dwight R. “D.R.” and Nobie Martin Lowrey on January 17th, 1943. On March 18th, 1967, Ron married the love of his life, Janet. They were married for 53 years.

Ronald was a graduate of De Queen High School and after, went on to own and operate “Ron’s Auto Repair” on Stillwell Avenue in De Queen where he took care of the vehicle repair needs for many in Sevier County until he retired in 2008.

While he loved fixing cars, and restoring Broncos and antique trucks, he had an even bigger passion for music. A member of the former Gene Argenbright Band, Ronald will be known and remembered for his musical abilities on a guitar, the good ole days of songs and playing true country music, and his love for “Pickin’ and Grinnin’” whether it was hosted on the front porch of his home, the party barn, or other local events and venues.

While his love of music was strong, the love he had for his children and grandchildren was even stronger. A grandfather to 7 and a great-grandfather to 7, and 2 on the way, Ronald spent much of his time catering to his grandkids teaching them the tips and tricks of life skills, gardening, hunting, and cooking. He and Janet were a refuge for them when his grandkids wanted to run away from their mean parents, or just to hang out on the porch and visit. He made all the fun memories of a childhood with them that a grandparent possibly could, complete with a custom-built tree house, bag swing, and the perfect weenie roasting spot down at Wilson Creek.

Ronald is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Janet, a sister, Patricia VanMeter, and a son-in-law, Dwayne Miller.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his most prized companion, Dash the malti-poo whom he loved more but spanked way less than his 3 children; Sandy Miller-Huntsberger of De Queen, Leah Harper (Joey) of Lockesburg, and Brett Lowrey (Deborah) of Conway, Arkansas. Seven Grandchildren, Ashley Eeds (Jason) of Broken Bow, Callie Efird (Brad), Grayson Coleman, Morgan Miller, Blake Lowrey (Marley) all of De Queen, Austin O’Rand (Jordan) of Harrah, Oklahoma, and Alec Lowrey of Fort Smith. His great-grandchildren, Carson Coleman and Maddie Eeds, Hudson and Ila Lowrey, Dallis, and Zayden O’Rand, and Sloan Efird as well as, nieces, nephews, a host of great friends and talented musicians.

Barbara Jean Carlton-Reid

Barbara Jean Carlton-Reid was called home on March 3, 2024. Born July 1, 1954, she was a creative soul that touched her family with her beautiful art, bird photography, unique interior designs as well as gardening. Her artistic spirit will forever be part of our hearts and homes.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry Francis Boulet and Elma Jean Dooley, and her late husband, Edward Hines Carlton.

Kenneth Charles Irvan

Kenneth Charles Irvan, born on July 11, 1946, in Yorktown, Virginia, embarked on his final journey and peacefully passed away in Shreveport, Louisiana, on March 3, 2024, surrounded by his loving family and great friends. He was the beloved son of Leonard Taylor Irvan and Maypearl Dorsett Irvan, who preceded him in death.

Kenneth was a man of many dimensions, dedicating his life to various pursuits that enriched the lives of those around him. He was a loving husband to his beloved wife Ramona Ponder Irvan, whom he married on June 18, 2005, and shared 19 beautiful years together. Their bond was unbreakable, a testimony to the power of love and commitment.

Kenneth was a proud veteran, dedicated to his country and fellow servicemen. After obtaining a Master of Divinity degree from Brite at TCU and being ordained to the Christian ministry by Central Christian Church in Texarkana in 1977, Kenneth served in the Army as a Chaplain, gaining the rank of Major.

After his military service, Kenneth earned a Master of Education degree from LSUS. Even after this second master’s degree, he continued to enroll in history and liberal arts courses for the pleasure of learning. His thirst for knowledge was insatiable, reflected in his love for reading books and exploring his ancestry with a passion that inspired all those around him. He also found joy in using his metal detector to explore for hidden treasures, mirroring his innate curiosity.

Baptized in the cold creek waters of Sevier County, Arkansas, Kenneth’s faith in God persevered through the storms of life. Until his health prevented it, he led Bible discussions with cherished friends at his church. His favorite topics were Old Testament history, Biblical archaeology, and ethics.

Kenneth’s character was a tapestry of virtues – kind, loving, loyal, funny, dedicated, and determined were just a few of his amazing characteristics. His presence brought warmth and laughter to every gathering, leaving an indelible mark on all who had the privilege to know him. He touched the lives of many with his generosity and compassion, making the world a better place through his actions and words.

Left on this earth are his beloved wife; his two sons Jonathan Irvan and Brian Irvan with wife Tracie; his cherished grandchildren Zermanda Grenier, Olivia Swift O’Neill, Cameron Irvan, Chance Irvan, Katie Irvan, and Cody Irvan; and a soon-to-be born great grandson. Their memories of Kenneth will live on in their hearts.

As we bid farewell to Kenneth Charles Irvan, we honor his legacy of love, faith, and service. May his spirit soar among the heavens, where he will continue to inspire and watch over us with his gentle smile, contagious laughter, and unwavering love and grace. Rest in peace, Grandpa Ken. Your light will forever shine brightly in our hearts.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 on Thursday, March 7, 2024, at Broadmoor Baptist Church Memorial Chapel, 4110 Youree Drive, Shreveport, Louisiana. Public viewing and visitation will begin an hour earlier at 1:00. Interment will follow the next day at 11:00 at Clear Creek Cemetery, located one and a half miles due east of Horatio, Arkansas. Funeral arrangements are organized by Boone’s Funeral Home of Bossier City, Louisiana.

Due to Ken’s many years as a Chaplain to servicemen, a donation to the Wounded Warrior Project would honor him.

Jimmy Lynn Sharp

Jimmy Lynn Sharp died peacefully with his wife by his side on Monday, March 4, 2024.  Everyone who knew Jimmy knew of his calm, quiet, peaceful spirit. Jimmy owned Sharp’s Machine Shop and later, Jim’s Farm Repair, both in Lockesburg, Arkansas, where he worked as a machinist and tool and die maker.

Jimmy was born on September 3, 1943, to John T. Sharp and Mildred Crawford Sharp, in De Queen, Arkansas. 

Jimmy is preceded in death by his parents, John Tyre Sharp and Mildred Crawford Sharp of Lockesburg, Arkansas, his brother, Richard Allen Sharp, of Daingerfield, Texas, and his half-brother, J. T. Sharp of Daingerfield, Texas. 

Jimmy is survived by his high school sweetheart and wife of 61 years, Barbara Slaton Sharp, his daughter and son-in-law, Terri and Mat Whitworth of Alma, and his daughter and son-in-law, Debra and Mark Johnson of Russellville. He leaves behind five grandchildren, Jonathan Terry of Fayetteville, Zachary Whitworth of Springdale, Taylor Whitworth Parker and husband, Michael, of Mesa, Arizona, Jordan Terry and wife, Candace, of Hot Springs, and Jacob Whitworth and wife, Mariny, of Conway. Jimmy also has two great-grandchildren, Millie Jane Parker and Benjamin Oliver Parker, of Mesa, Arizona.

Graveside services will be held on Saturday, March 9, 2024, at 11:00 a.m., at Coulter Cemetery in Lockesburg, Arkansas with Bro. Jerrel Helms officiating, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home in De Queen, Arkansas.

Larry Higgins

Larry Steve Higgins, 77, passed away in Texarkana, Texas, in the morning of Friday, March 1, 2024.

Larry was born in Portland, Oregon, and in 1948 moved to De Queen, AR, with his family, where he resided for 73 years. 

He graduated from De Queen High School in 1964, afterwards joined the United States Airforce, serving 4 years.

Larry met the love of his life on a blind date, and were married on August 14, 1970 for 53 years!

He was a member of the American Legion and Gideons International. An Ordained Deacon and Church Treasurer at Friendship Baptist of De Queen.

Larry retired in 2009, after 41 years as a Railcar Mechanic from De Queen Eastern Railroad.

In 2012, he completed an Associates of General Studies, a Certificate of Proficiency, and an Associate of Arts Degree from Cossatot Technical College, University of Arkansas.

Larry enjoyed gardening, collecting antiques and cutting fire wood. He will be remembered for his honesty integrity his faith and loyalty to the Lord.

Larry is preceded in death by his parents, Inda and Earl Higgins and one sister, Judy Moses.

Survived by his wife, Vickie Carol Higgins; daughter, Melissa and Art Turnley of Texarkana, Texas; son, Scott and Brenna Higgins of Texarkana, AR; four grandsons, Sawyer, Langston, Asher Turnley, and Rhett Higgins.

Funeral Services for Mr. Higgins will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, March 4, 2024 at the Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel in De Queen with Carlos Trapp and Scott Higgins officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Ida Cemetery.

Ann Bokren Johnny, age 28, a resident of De Queen, Arkansas died Monday, February 5, 2024 at UAMS in Little Rock.

Ann was born September 23, 1995 in the Marshall Island.

Geraldine Welch

Mrs. Geraldine Lambert Welch, age 99, a resident of Winthrop, Arkansas died Thursday, February 29, 2024 at Wadley Medical Regional Hospital in Texarkana, Texas.

She was born December 7, 1924 in Winthrop, Arkansas. She graduated from Magnolia A&M which is now Southern Arkansas University in Magnolia, Arkansas. Mrs. Welch was a secretary for Tulsa Public School System. She moved back to Winthrop in 1979 to help manage Lambert Drug Store, that was owned by her family. She was a lifelong member of Winthrop Methodist Church, where she was very active and she was on the Campground Cemetery Board. She loved her family and enjoyed gardening, sewing, and was an excellent cook. 

She was preceded in death by parents, Henry and Addie Morgan Lambert; and her husband of 50 years, Louie John Welch.

Mrs. Welch is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Patty Welch of Winthrop, Arkansas; two grandchildren, Brian Welch and wife Rachele of Winthrop, Lauren Abney of Ashdown, Arkansas; two step granddaughters, Heather Cox of Colorado, Britney Cox of Winthrop; four great grandchildren, Henry Welch, Haddie Welch, Carson Horn and Laynie Horn; special family friend, Nancy Coker; and a number of nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.

Mr. John McDonnell

Mr. John Richard McDonnell, age 65, resident of De Queen, Arkansas, passed peacefully from this life on Monday, February 26, 2024, at home with his loving family by his side.

John was born June 6, 1958, to William Andrew and Paulin Louvon Flournoy McDonnell, in De Queen. He was a 1978 graduate of De Queen High School and later, on May 22, 1981, married the love of his life, Nina Ruth Marshall, and to this union, two children were born. John worked in Maintenance for Poulan, retiring in 2019, following thirty-two years of service. Following his retirement. John later went to work for the De Queen School District, again working in Maintenance. John and Nina are members of Chapel Hill Baptist Church in De Queen, and John enjoyed fishing, hunting, spending time on the river with his family, and building things with Clayton. John best spent his time with Nina, their children, and grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister, Rosemary McDonnell.

John leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife of over forty-two years, Nina McDonnell of De Queen; their children, Clayton McDonnell and wife Candice of De Queen, and Kelsey McDonnell of Atlanta, Texas; he was “Poppy” to his three doting grandchildren, Jadi McDonnell, Marli McDonnell, and Payton McDonnell; three brothers, William Andrew McDonnell, Jr. of Texarkana, Arkansas, Marion McDonnell of De Queen, and Kenny McDonnell and wife Vicki of De Queen; one sister, Cathy McDonnell of Texarkana, Texas; as well as a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and a host of friends.

Mr. David Hennard

Mr. Gerald David Hennard, affectionally called, David, age 76, a resident of De Queen, Arkansas, passed from this life on Friday, February 23, 2024, in the Sevier County Medical Center, De Queen.

He was one of four children born to Roy Allie and Gertie Mae Ross Hennard. David was born in De Queen, Arkansas, on September 13, 1947. He was a retired crane operator and attended the De Queen First Assembly of Church. David married Juanda Jean Smalling in De Queen, Arkansas on February 24, 1980. He had a passion for fishing, hunting, tinkering, working, but his best time spent was with Juanda, his family, and especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

David was preceded by his parents, and his sisters, Patsy Wilson and Marilyn Houser.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 44 years, Juanda, his sons, David Scott Hennard and his wife, Dianne King of Chattanooga, Tennessee, Jason Bradley Hennard, and his partner, Jackie Cupples of Clearwater, Florida, and Don and his wife, Tammy Clay of Hope, Arkansas, his daughters, LaJuanna Baggs and Jose Olalde of De Queen, Arkansas, and Mistie and her husband, Marty Arivett of Langley, Arkansas; his grandchildren, Jordan and her husband, Cory McMellon, Madison and her husband, Brenden Camp, and Zachary Clay; his great-grandchildren, Maxx McMellon, Juliet Kate McMellon, and Caroline Elaine Camp; his brother and sister-in-law, Don and Sally Hennard of De Queen, Arkansas. Mrs. Frances Morris

Mrs. Frances Marie Ruth Morris, age 79, resident of Gillham, Arkansas, passed from this life on Wednesday, February 21, 2024, at Howard Memorial Hospital in Nashville, Arkansas.

Frances was born the first of three children to Lee Franklin and Virginia Rachel Staggs Ruth on December 26, 1944, in De Queen. After attending school, Frances married the love of her life, Milton Morris, on June 30, 1960, in Texarkana, Arkansas, and to this union, seven children were born. Frances was a Homemaker, spending the majority of her time keeping their home and raising her children. Later, Frances drove a school bus, driving sixteen years for the Gillham School District and one year for the De Queen School District before her retirement. She and Milton are members of the Gillham First Baptist Church, and former members of the Gillham Fire Department, having given many years of service. Frances was a faithful patron of and enjoyed being involved with the Gillham Library. She also enjoyed sewing, quilting, book collecting, and gardening. Frances best spent her time with Milton, their children, and her loving grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and one son, Doyle Morris.

Donald Gillespie

Donald Lee Gillespie, age 70, a resident of De Queen, Arkansas, died Sunday, February 18, 2024 at Sevier County Medical Center in De Queen.

He was born May 5, 1953 in Huntsville, Arkansas. He was retired from the U.S. Navy, having served during Vietnam, and attended the First United Methodist Church in De Queen. He loved building and collecting trains, and was an activist and mentor for Alcoholic Anonymous, through which he met a lot of families and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Neta Stevens Gillespie and one brother, Jimmy Gillespie.

Donald is survived by two sons and daughter-in-law, Ryan and Ashleigh Gillespie of Alma, Arkansas, Donald Gillespie of Tulsa, Oklahoma; two daughters and son-in-law, Ashley Hilson and David of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Jessica Hockersmith of New Boston, Texas; thirteen grandchildren, Gavin, Andrian, Aleena, Kalel, Rhett, Rory, Lynlee, Alyssa, Riley, Junior, Grayson, Jayson and Teri; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Charlie and MelaDee of Mt. Mitchell Ray Ward

Mitchell Ray Ward, age 60, a resident of Dierks, Arkansas, died Thursday, February 15, 2024 at his home.

He was born August 28, 1963 in De Queen, Arkansas. He was a logger for Mark Eason Logging for the last ten years, and cut logs for over 40 years. He enjoyed hunting, the outdoors, cutting down pine trees, and loved his family, especially his grandkids.

He is preceded in death by his mother, Francis Deer Ward and one brother, William Ward.

Mitchell is survived by his wife, Michelle Ward of Dierks, four sons and daughter-in-law, Mitchel Ward, Mark Ward, Tracy Jones, Matthew and Taylor Jones; one daughter and son-in-law, Alyssa and Caleb Pearson; his father, Clyde Ward; two brothers, Wendell Ward and Doug Ward all of Dierks, Arkansas; ten grandchildren, Kelly Ward, Ethan Ward, Jacee Ward, Brenden Ward, Paisley Pearson, Coleman Pearson, Daniel Pearson, Clayton Pearson and Paxton Baker and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Mitchell will be held 2:00 p.m., Sunday, February 18, 2024 in the Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel in Dierks with Alyssa Pearson officiating. Burial will follow at Fellowship Cemetery, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home in De Queen.

Freida Litchford

Fredia Claudell Chandler Litchford, age 81, a resident of Horatio, Arkansas died Wednesday, February 14, 2024 at her home.

Fredia was born January 12, 1943 in Horatio, Arkansas. She was the coordinator for Senior Citizen Center in Horatio, and was a member of Assembly of God in Horatio.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Claudie and Lizzie Staggs Chandler; her husband of 54 years, Franklin Del Litchford; great grandson, Layne Eugene Franchiseur; her siblings, Jessie Ashley, Johnie Rene Ashley, and her twin sister, Francis Chandler.

She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, LaFonda and Jack McCoy of Horatio; three granddaughters, Casey Morris of Little Rock, Jennifer (Emmett) Ray of Horatio, and Laura Frachiseur of Horatio, six great-grandchildren, Macy and Avery Morris, Emma and Andi Ray, Kirsti and Lincoln Frachiseur; one brother, Dennis Chandler of Ashdown; two sisters, Billie Evans of Winthrop, Mary Tallant of Horatio and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Fredia will be held at 11:00 a.m., with the family receiving friends one hour prior to the service, Saturday, February 17, 2024 in the Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel in De Queen with John Gutierres  officiating. Burial will follow in Old Center Cemetery under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home.

General viewing will be held 2:00 p.m., to 8:00 p.m., Friday, February 16, 2024 at the funeral home in De Queen.

Lori Denise Tollett

Mrs. Lori Denise (Cremeen) Tollett passed from this life on Wednesday, February 14, 2024, after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. She was 55 years old.

Lori was born in Fort Worth, Texas on July 1, 1968, to Maybelle Lynn Cremeen and Jimmy Richard Cremeen. She graduated from Weatherford High School in 1985 and attended Weatherford College where she earned an Associate’s Degree. She married the love of her life, Dennis Dee Tollett, on July 11, 1986, in Weatherford, Texas, where they made their home and family. Together they formed DT Utilities, a successful underground utility construction company in Weatherford. Lori also worked as a Legal Assistant to John Westhoff with Borden & Westhoff for 37 years.

Lori is survived by her devoted husband of 37 years, Dennis Tollett; her beloved son, Colton Tollett and wife, Kristin; her beloved daughter, Chelsea (Tollett) Ortega and husband, Logan; and her cherished grandchildren, Stratton Tollett, Ezekiel Ortega, Priscilla Ortega and Abigail Tollett, all of Weatherford. Lori is also survived by her parents, Lynn and David Smith of Weatherford, and Jim and Linda Cremeen of Crowley; her sister, Lisa Simons and husband, Terry of Palo Pinto; her mother-in-law, Wilma Tollett of Weatherford; her sister-in-law, Debbie Lee and husband, Terry of Brock; her grandmother, Joann Windom of Fort Worth; and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. on Monday, February 19, 2024. Pedro Mena Triana

Mr. Pedro Mena Triana, age 77, a resident of Texarkana, Arkansas, died Monday, February 12, 2024.

He was born in Camajuani, Las Villas, Havana, Cuba, on May 19, 1946. He was an employee of Over The Top Roofing in Redwater, Texas, and played minor league baseball in Cuba and the United States. He enjoyed fishing and tinkering with cars. Pedro best spent his time with his loving family and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Manoho Triana and Agueda Mena; and three siblings, Barbara Triana, Vicente Triana, and Tazan Triana.

Pedro leaves to cherish his memory, three sons, Pedro Hill of De Queen, Howard Triana and Jasmine Stewart of Evansville, Indiana, and Pedro Triana, Jr. of Texarkana, Texas; one daughter, Laketha Michelle Triana of De Queen; five grandchildren, Trenton Hill, Jazmyne Hill, Jacques Edmond, Carmine Stewart Triana, and Alakay Stewart Triana; one great-granddaughter, Laila Jo Morris Hill; one sister, Maria Triana of Cuba; and a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and a host of friends.

Mackie Lee Jones

Mackie Lee Jones, age 75, a resident of De Queen, Arkansas, died Wednesday, February 14, 2024 at PAM Specialty Hospital in Texarkana, Texas.

He was born January 22, 1949 in Nashville, Arkansas. He was a member of First Baptist Church in De Queen. He was a graduate of Dierks High School and Henderson State University. Mackie enjoyed golfing, bowling, coaching kids in sports, watching the Arkansas Razorbacks and the De Queen Leopards. He was retired from Weyerhaeuser.

He is preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, Belva Jean Jones; his parents, James Carmel and Essie Eudy Jones; two brothers, Jackie Jones and James Edward Jones; one sister, Kathy Johnson.

Mackie is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Kevin and Angela Jones of Mansfield, Arkansas; one daughter and son-in-law, Amber and Michael Williamson of De Queen; seven grandchildren, Mackenzie and Kierstyn, Gabriel and Emily, Seth, Amie, Abbie, Isaiah, Alle, and Daniel; great grandchildren Madison, Mila, Ella, Memphis, Gracelynn, Sawyer, Jhasen, Genevieve and Beau; one brother and sister-in-law, David and Lisa Jones of Lockesburg; one sister, Linda Phelps of Centerpoint and a number of nieces and nephews.

Kenneth Spencer

Kenneth Orville Spencer, age 90, a resident of Texarkana, Arkansas, died Tuesday, February 13, 2024 at Windsor Cottage in Texarkana, Arkansas.

He was born April 18, 1933 in Valliant, Oklahoma. He was a member of First Pentecostal Church-God. He worked for Lanes poultry plant in Grannis, Arkansas. He enjoyed fishing, singing, and loved his family.  

He is preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Joyce Fair Spencer; his parents, Art and Inez Webster Spencer; two sons, David Spencer and Richard Spencer; four sisters, Sadie Nation, Bonnie Harmon, Lula Mae Young and Linda Smith.

Kenneth is survived by two daughters, LaVelle Krudwig of De Queen, Arkansas, Marsha and Steve Henson of Texarkana, Texas; one son, Kenny Spencer of De Queen, AR; grandchildren, Wayne and Priscila Baker of De Queen, AR, Joey and Sarah Krudwig of Texarkana, AR, Holly and Chris Davis of Mena, AR, Nathan Wilson of McAllister, OK, Daniel McDougal of De Queen, AR, Jordan and Zane Frost of Hooks, Texas, Gracie and Michael Page of Hot Springs, AR, thirteen great grandchildren; one great great grandchild, one special sister-in-law, Lorene Presley that loved Kenneth like a brother, and a number of nieces and nephews.

Ruth West Murray

Mrs. Ruth West Murray, age 93, a resident of Kennedale, Texas, formerly of Foreman, Arkansas, died peacefully in her sleep, Sunday, January 28th, 2024, at Crestview Court in Cedar Hill, Texas.

She was born June 19th, 1930, in Little River County, Arkansas. She was a Christian and enjoyed music and country Gospel. Ruth was also a schoolteacher for over forty-four years and taught school in Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas, and Oklahoma. She loved reading and teaching others to read.

Mrs. Murray was preceded in death by her parents, Roy Clarence and Rilla LeFevers West, her husband, Raymond Roy Murray, her sister Virginia Faye West Holley and Lamar, and niece Patricia Lynn Hail.

She is survived by her nieces Brenda Gail Wicks and husband Gary of Mansfield, TX., Cindy Leigh Anderson of Kennedale, TX., Great nieces and nephews, Erik McCullough of Norman, OK., Wesley Taylor and wife Robin of Everman, TX., Alexis Hail Hammond and husband Carter of Thompson Station, TN., Ashleigh Taylor Thomas and Jermi of Garland, TX., and many great-great and great-great-great nieces and nephews that loved her.

A private service was held at Dennison Cemetery in Idabel, Oklahoma, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home in De Queen, Arkansas.

Mr. Joe Compagna

MGT (Retired) Joseph Gerard Donat Compagna, age 88, a resident of Wickes, Arkansas, died Saturday, February 10, 2024, in the V. A. Medical Center, Little Rock, Arkansas.

Joe was born May 9, 1935, one of three children born to Paul Joseph and Leontine Croteau Compagna, in Putnam, Conn. He married Joan Marie Smalley in Dallas, Texas, on December 27, 1956. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, and the Vietnam War with the United States Air Force, retiring with 20 plus years. After his retirement, Joe worked at the Wickes Post Office, and was a cattle farmer. He was a faithful member of St. Barbara’s Catholic Church, and enjoyed traveling, and helping his fellow man. His best time spent was with Joan, their children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and their great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and his sisters, Theresa Comtois, and Anita Menard, and a grandson, Justin Watkins.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 67 years, Joan Compagna of Wickes, a son, LTC (retired) David Joseph Compagna and his wife, Cheryl of North Little Rock, Arkansas, a daughter, Catherine and Donald Talley of Wickes, two grandsons, Joseph Watkins, and Gerald and his wife, Heather Watkins; six great-grandchildren, Eden Watkins, Bodie Watkins, Kalin Smith and her husband, Kamren, Joseph Bailey Watkins and his friend, Kylee Cody, Addison Watkins, and Avery Watkins, two great-great-grandchildren, Kase Smith, and Kooper Smith as well as nieces, nephews, other family members and a host of friends.

Jimmy Lloyd 

Mr. Jimmy Hurston Lloyd , age 82, a resident of Dierks, Arkansas, passed away Thursday, February 8, 2024 in Dierks Health and Rehab.

He was born March 30, 1941 in Monticello, Arkansas. He was retired from Weyerhaeuser, where he was a supervisor. He worked for Kirby and Kirby after retirement. He was a member of the Dierks Church of Christ, where he was a former bible class teacher, an active member in the church. He loved hunting deer, turkey, and quail over the years. He was a longtime member of the Reid-Howard Hunting Club. He enjoyed working in his vegetable garden, reading westerns, watching sports, especially Razorbacks, and spending time with friends and family, especially his grands and great grands.

Mr. Lloyd was preceded in death by his wife, Wanda Lucille Ozment Lloyd, whom he married in 1958; his daughter, Lorrie Ann Morris; his parents, Willie Hurston Lloyd and Ella Myrtle McKiever Lloyd; his foster parents Norwood and Carrie Courson Hill; his siblings, Robert “Mac” Reynolds, Billy Reynolds, William Hill, Winda Hill Laskey, and Linda Hill Harville, also, longtime family friends, Floyce and Ruth Howard, and their children; Thomas Howard, Danny Howard, Ronnie Howard, and JoAnn Walters.

He is survived by his son, Ricky Lloyd and wife, Kim of Dierks, AR; his daughter, Michelle Ward and husband, Doug of Newhope, AR; his grandchildren; Jeffrey Jackson of Dierks, Chance Morris (Megan) of Apex, NC, Cody Lloyd of Texarkana, Tx, Brittney Davis (Bobby) of Langley, AR, Emily Robins (Josh) of Nashville, AR, and Jacob Lloyd of Dierks; his great grandchildren; Rylee and Jett Jackson, Everly and Barret Morris, Adi, Bryar, Enzlea, and Ridge Davis, Blake and Emmy Robins, and Collin Lloyd; a special niece, DeeDee Harville Smith of Hamburg, AR; and special family friends Richard Howard of Nashville, AR and Mike Moore of Dierks, AR; and a host of family and friends; and his long time loyal companion, his dog, Bear.

James Nylon “Bone” Johnson

Mr. James Nylon “Bone” Johnson, age 72, went to be with his Heavenly father on Sunday, February 4, 2024.

He was born on August 19, 1951 in De Queen, Arkansas to the late Mr. Joe and Pearlee Johnson. He was a member of Mt. Phebie Baptist Church in Horatio. He served his country in the U.S. Army.  He enjoyed watching sports and spending time with his grandchildren. He was retired from Pilgrim’s Pride. 

He is preceded in death by his parents, Mr. Joe and Pearlee Johnson.

James is survived by four daughters, Kristy (Michale) Jackson of De Queen, Jessica Keaster and LaTasha Keaster of De Queen, and Shilynn Baker of Dexter, Missouri; one stepdaughter, Jackie Bennett of De Queen; his girlfriend, Julie Criag;  two brothers, Dean Johnson of Horatio, Arkansas, and Carl Dillahunty of Little Rock, Arkansas; ten grandchildren, Makyla Jackson, Alexis Smith, Merecedes Smith, Braxton Keaster, Myles Jackson, Amiah Keaster, Kamani Williamson, Rayla Keaster, Ruston Moore, Kezra Gonzalez, special friends, Pam Kelley, Jessie Parker, Mike Ross and a number of nieces, nephews, and many friends.

Patsy Cannon

Patsy Sue Cannon, age 85, a resident of Hot Springs, Arkansas, died Monday, February 5, 2024 at Christus St. Micheal Health System in Texarkana, Texas.

She was born May 5, 1938 in Lockesburg, Arkansas. She was a Baptist, and retired administrative assistant for Experience Works. She loved spending time with her family, and enjoyed gardening, playing games especially dominoes.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Riley Allen Stafford III and Martha Ann Brewer Stafford; her husband, Grover Gordon Cannon; three sons, William Hill, Gordon Cannon and Timothy Hill; two grandsons, Levi Simmons, Timothy Riley Hill; one great granddaughter, Zoey Simmons.

Patsy is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Kim and Terry Seibert of Texarkana, Arkansas and Kelly and Dickey Chambers of Hot Springs, Arkansas; nine grandchildren and ten great grandchildren; two special cousins, Reggie Brewer and Billy Roy Brewer both of Houston, Texas and a number of nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Betty Brewer

Ms. Betty Jean Brewer, age 66, resident of De Queen, Arkansas, passed peacefully from this life on Sunday, February 4, 2024, in the CHRISTUS St. Michael Health System, Texarkana, Texas.

Betty was born one of eight children to the union of Honval Riley Brewer, Sr. and Yvonne Carpenter Brewer on September 7, 1957, in De Queen, Arkansas. Betty was a 1975 graduate of De Queen High School and went on to obtain an associate degree from Cossatot Community College. Betty worked in a number of different capacities over the years including time at Big T, or Big Bob’s as it was later known, Dollar General, Amberwood, and most recently as a caretaker with the Sevier County Developmental Center in De Queen. Betty was of the Christian faith and enjoyed fishing, going to yard and garage sales, sewing, and crocheting. Betty best spent her time with Polo, her loving family, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Johnny Lee Brewer and Bill Joe Brewer and wife Verda; one sister and brother-in-law, Mary Jane Rovell and husband Patrick Edward Rovell, Jr.; and one nephew, David Brewer.

Mrs. Wanda Jean Brown Fisher, age 74, resident of De Queen, Arkansas, passed from this life on Friday, February 2, 2024, at her home.

Wanda was born March 15, 1949, in Smithville, Oklahoma, to C.G. “Buddy” Brown and Etta Stamps Brown. She was a graduate of Smithville High School and later went to work for Poulan in De Queen. Following her retirement from Poulan, Wanda went to work in the childcare center of the Sevier County Developmental Center in De Queen. She married the love of her life, Jimmy Andrew Fisher, on August 15, 1970, in Hatfield, Arkansas. She enjoyed watching birds and squirrels in the yard, her flowers, and making jalapeño jelly. Wanda best spent her time with Jimmy, her family, and her grand-daughter dogs, Cali, Lady, and Mini.

She was preceded in death by her parents, C.G. “Buddy” Brown and Etta Stamps Brown; three sisters, Opal Brown, Mae Thomas, and Marie Thomas; and one brother, Buster Brown.

Wanda is survived by her loving husband of fifty-three years, Jimmy Fisher of De Queen; one son, Patrick Fisher and his wife Johnye of De Queen; one stepson, Markus Weihrich and wife Petra of Germany; one sister, Ruby Allen of Kansas; two brothers, J.C. Brown and wife Roene of Broken Bow, Oklahoma, and Kenneth Brown and wife Jerrie of Ashdown; three sisters-in-law, Deloris Brown of Kansas City, Kansas, Shirley Goss of Mt. Ida, Arkansas, and Jean Fisher of Argile, Texas; one brother-in-law, David Fisher and wife Brenda of Hatfield; two step-grandsons, Orrin Crow and wife Jennifer of Alexander, Arkansas, and Lewis Leathers and wife Ashley of Hot Springs, Arkansas; one step-granddaughter, K’Leeh Holt and husband Joey of Wake Village, Texas; as well as a large number of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends.

Graveside Services for Mrs. Wanda Fisher will be held at 10:00 A.M., Thursday, February 8, 2024, at the Smithville Cemetery, Smithville, Oklahoma, with Bro. Homer Frachiseur officiating. Jamie Clark Beasley

Mr. Jamie Clark Beasley, age 70, a resident of Haworth, Oklahoma, died Friday, February 2, 2024 at Christus St. Micheal Health System in Texarkana, Texas.

He was born May 6, 1953 in Odessa, Texas. He was a member of the Church of Christ in Foreman. He enjoyed hosting cook outs, gardening, fishing and spoiling his grandkids. He was retired from Domtar and was a farmer. 

He is preceded in death by his late wife, Cindy Brown Beasley; his parents, Curtis and Frances Beasley; one brother, Bruce Beasley; two great granddaughters, Reagan Bush and Macy Jo Sullivan.

Jamie is survived by his wife of 13 years, Liz Beasley; two sons, Bo Beasley and Chance Beasley; one brother, Barry Beasley; one sister and brother-in-law, Kathy and Lynn Turner; two granddaughters, Lauren Beasley, Linsey and Koby Voss ; two grandsons, Caleb Beasley and Cole Beasley; two great grandchildren, Rylee Bush and Leah Knighten all of Foreman and his two dogs, Molly and Newt.

Barbara Ann Cooper

Barbara Ann Cooper 65, of Alma passed away peacefully Friday, January 12, 2024, in her home surrounded by family. She was the owner of G&B Cooper Enterprises, L.L.C. She loved Arts & Crafts, decorating, gardening, metal detecting, gaming and most of all her grandsons. She was preceded in death by her parents Lonnie Orbit and Shirley Ann (Smith) Claborn; one brother Robert Claborn.

She is survived by her husband of forty-six years Gary Cooper of Alma; daughter Alisha Keirsey and husband Jimmy of Van Buren; one sister Cheryl Brinkley and husband Keith of Muldrow; three grandsons Brayden, Bryson and Brody Keirsey all of Van Buren.

A private burial will be at a later date under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home in Van Buren.

Jimmy Charles Gaddis

Jimmy Charles Gaddis, 83, of Texarkana, Arkansas died at his home Tuesday, January 30, 2024.

Born June 3, 1940 in Dierks, Arkansas, he graduated Dierks High School in 1958 and shortly thereafter joined the United States Army stationed in Nuremberg, Germany with SP4 rank. Upon completion of his military service, he attended welding school which led to a lifelong career in welding, iron work and construction and relocations to Minnesota, Ohio, Texas, Illinois, and Florida. He retired from his favorite job with Ranch Cryogenics in 2020 having traveled nationally and internationally as a Project Superintendent.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Vondal “Granny” Gaddis, and J.O. “Pap” Gaddis of Dierks Arkansas, and his sister, Donna Hefner of Mena, Arkansas.

He is survived by his wife of 33 years Karolyn Kay Gaddis, his sister, Betty Jo Johnson of Mena, Arkansas, his daughters Jamie Gaddis of Memphis, TN, and LeAnn Burke (Kevin) of Cincinnati, OH, along with two grandsons Jackson and Cooper Burke of West Point, New York and Cincinnati, OH respectively; and other relatives and many friends.

His happiest times were spent doing what he loved most–hunting and fishing. “Gad” cherished his guns, dogs, and the many friends with whom he shared this passion.

Funeral services for Mr. Gaddis will be held 2:00 p.m., Saturday, February 3, 2024 in the Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Bobby Neal officiating. Burial will be private.

Otto Daniel Kutach

Otto Daniel Kutach, age 75, a resident of Umpire, AR, peacefully went home to be with his Lord on Monday, January 29, 2024 at Christus St. Michael Health System in Texarkana, Texas.

Otto was born on April 13, 1948. He was a member of Athens Missionary Baptist Church. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, going to church and church camp, dominos on Monday nights, working and spending time with his family. He was a faithful servant to his church and community and he was a great friend to many.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Steve Victor Kutach, Sr. and Julia Gallia Kutach; one sister, Irene Wilcoxon and one brother, Robert Kutach.

Otto is survived by his wife of 38 years, Gina Kutach; one son, Billy Hawkins of Umpire; one daughter, Faith Wright of Corpus Christi, Texas; one grandson, Colton Daniel Wright; two brothers, Steve Kutach, Jr. and Joey Kutach; five sisters, Betty Speck, Kathy Bachtell, Joyce Rees, Barbara Naiser, and Dianne Wilburn and a number of nieces and nephews, and a host of friends.

Eleanor (Braun) Paetzell, age 84, a resident of Gillham, Arkansas, passed away Thursday night January 25, 2024 at UAMS Hospital in Little Rock. She was lovingly cared for by the hospital health care workers along with a dynamic crew at Sevier County Medical Center night ER staff in De Queen. The EMT and first responders of Gillham were so careful and spot-on handling my Mothers needs. 

Mother of Tom, James, Tina (Penniman) and Cindy Paetzell and her granddaughter, Cristi and great grandsons, Gunnar and Ruxtin.

Elizabeth Juanita Hooker

Mrs. Elizabeth Juanita Horne Hooker, age 94, a resident of Chandler, Oklahoma, and former resident of De Queen, died Friday, January 19, 2024, in a Shawnee, Oklahoma hospital.

Juanita, one of four children born to Bill and Tommie Martin Horne. She was born on September 15, 1929, in Prescott, Arkansas, and married the love of her life, Sanford Lee Hooker on September 15, 1948, in Prescott, Arkansas. They spent over 57 loving years together, until his death in 2005. Juanita was a member of the Memorial Missionary Baptist Church, and her best spent time was with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by her parents, and two brothers-in-law, Jim Erskine, and Ellis McDowell.

She leaves to cherish her memory, a son and daughter-in-law, Sanford L., Jr. (Sandy) and Billie Sue Hooker of Wellston, Oklahoma, a daughter, Anita Gaunt of Dansville, Michigan; a brother and sister-in-law, Jerry and Pat Horne of Texarkana, Arkansas, two sisters, Barbara Erskine of Bentonville, Arkansas, and Judy McDowell of Atlanta, Georgia; five grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren as well as a number of nieces and nephews, other family members and a host of friends.

Loretta Haney

Mrs. Loretta Marie Ola Vaughn Haney, age 88, resident of Lockesburg, Arkansas, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, January 18, 2024, in Hot Springs, Arkansas.

Loretta, known to family and friends as “Bobbie Jean”, was born the youngest of eight children to the union of Alonzo and Dorothy Dowd Vaughn on August 12, 1935, in Center Point, Arkansas. She attended Dunbar High School in Center Point, later graduating from Childress High School in Nashville. Shortly thereafter, Loretta wed Thurman G. Haney, and to this union, ten children were born. She was a faithful member of New View Church of Christ in Center Point. Loretta enjoyed sewing and making clothing for her family, fixing hair, watching TV, singing, attending family gatherings, and cooking. Loretta was well known for her abilities in the kitchen but is honorably noted for her peach cobbler. She best spent her time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband of over fifty-three years, Thurman Haney; two sons, Les Haney and Marcus Haney; as well as her siblings.

Ms. Beverly St. John

Ms. Beverly Colleen St. John, age 65, resident of Benton, Arkansas, passed peacefully from this life on Tuesday, January 16, 2024, in Little Rock, Arkansas.

Beverly was born one of four daughters to the union of Kenneth Neal and Wanda Joan Jacobs St. John on September 16, 1958, in De Queen, Arkansas. Beverly was a 1976 graduate of Dierks High School and went on to attend the University of Central Arkansas. It was at UCA that she received her bachelor’s degree in special education. Following her completion of college, Beverly went to work for the United States Postal Service, working a number of years as a letter carrier in El Dorado. During her professional career, Beverly worked in other capacities, including time with a construction company. Beverly was of the Baptist faith and a member of Ridge Crest Baptist Church in Benton. She enjoyed being active with the Saline County Senior Citizens, reading, singing, and listening to music. Most of all, Beverly cherished the time spent with her loving family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Kenneth and Joan Jacobs St. John; her aunts, Tannie Lay and Marilyn St. John, and an uncle, Marlin St. John.

Glen Wilder

Mr. Glen Dale Wilder, age 76, resident of Amity, Arkansas, passed from this life on Tuesday, January 16, 2024, at his home.

Glen was born to the union of Russell Warner and Nellie Edith Newton Wilder on June 16, 1947, in Clark County, Arkansas. He attended school in Rosboro, Arkansas, and later joined the Armed Forces. Glen worked his career as a Logger, working many years for himself. In April of 1976, Glen married the love of his life, Rhonda Elaine Spears, in Pike County. Glen was of the Christian faith and enjoyed watching the news and his birds, telling jokes, fishing, and being outdoors. Glen most enjoyed running his dogs, deer hunting, and spending time with his children and grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Russell Warner Wilder and Nellie Edith Spencer; his loving wife of over forty-six years, Elaine Wilder; one son, Warner Lynn Douglas; one daughter, Jessica Elaine Miller; one sister, Shirley Anderson; and a brother, Stevie Spencer.

Ms. Tammy Ann Smith Johnson was born May 17, 1963, in Sevier County, Arkansas, to the parents of Luther Lavan Smith and Mary Lou Boyles (Smith). She was a member of the Mt. Zion Methodist Church in Horatio, Arkansas. She departed this life on January 12, 2024. She graduated from Horatio High School and later wed Santhony Johnson and from that union, the had two children, FaNisha Jonte Smith Levett of Jacksonville, Arkansas, and Santaria Qunay Johnson of De Queen, Arkansas.

She was preceded in death by her father, Luther Lavan Smith; a half-sister, Threada; and a grandchild, Rylen McCollum.

Roy Dean Griffin

Roy Dean Griffin, age 76, a resident of Horatio, AR, peacefully went home to be with his Lord on Monday, January 15, 2024 at his home.

Roy was born on July 10, 1947 in Horatio, Arkansas. He was a member of Old Center Church in Horatio. He enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing, especially noodling, frying fish, and road trips. He loved singing and playing his guitar.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd Griffin and Linnie Bell Lacefield Griffin and one sister, Vicky Griffin.

Naomi “Marie” Wax

Naomi “Marie” Wax departed this life on January 13, 2024. She was born in Grannis, Arkansas on February 26, 1938 to Clifford and Claudine Simmons

She was a member of First Baptist Church in De Queen. She was a former member of Gillham First Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School for many years and especially enjoyed children’s ministry.

She was a gifted artist and spent many years attending art shows.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Kevin Wax and one granddaughter, Jessica Wax.

She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Sharon Wax of Gillham and one grandson, Garrett Wax of Texarkana, Texas. She is also survived by her three brothers, Norman, Winston and Pete Simmons and one sister, Joyce Simmons and a number of nieces and nephews.

Graveside funeral services for Mrs. Wax will be held at 11:00a.m. Thursday, January 18, 2024 at Gillham Cemetery with Bro. Donnie Davis officiating under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home in De Queen.

Joe Trevino

Joe Trevino, age 81, a resident of Eagletown, Oklahoma, died Thursday, January 11, 2024 at his home.

He was born April 6, 1942 in Muzquiz, Coahuila, Mexico. He was a farmer and rancher.  Mr. Trevino was a member of the Lockesburg Masonic Lodge for 25 years and a Catholic.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jose Trevino and Romula Ruiz and a number of siblings.

He is survived by his wife, Sybil Jean McKinney Trevino; two sons and daughters-in-law, Daniel and Tracie Trevino of De Queen, Arkansas and Benjamin and Heather Trevino; one daughter and son-in-law, Sarah and Jesse Van Slyke; his sister-in-law, Theresa Maturino all of Eagletown; grandchildren, Lane Trevino, Sadie Hunnicut, Lauren Trevino, Jessa and Jadie Van Slyke and a number of nieces and nephews.  

Funeral Services for Mr. Trevino will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, January 18, 2024 in Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel in De Queen, Arkansas. Burial will follow in McKinney-Winship Cemetery in Eagletown.

Jo Nell Johnson

JoNell Johnson, age 95, a resident of Katy, Texas passed away peacefully on Monday, January 8, 2024. JoNell was born February 28, 1928 in Horatio, Arkansas, to Henry and Sadie Jones.

JoNell was preceded in death by her parents; beloved husband, Richard “Dick” Johnson; sister and brother-in-law, Ann and James Holcombe; and nephew, Rex Holcombe.

She is survived by one extra special cousin who was raised with her, Mike Nix of Couer d’ Alene, Idaho; one niece, Debbie Johnson (husband Andy) of Richmond, Texas; great nephews Brad Stanaland (wife Joy) and Ryan Stanaland of Houston, Texas; Great Niece Hillary Britton (husband Zach)of Montgomery, Texas; Dick’s Son, Gary Johnson (wife Martha) of Burke, Virginia; granddaughter Heather Kramer, (Husband Todd) and great granddaughter, Hailey Kramer from Gaithersburg, Maryland; and many other wonderful cousins on both sides of the family.

JoNell grew up in Horatio, Arkansas and attended school there. She graduated from Horatio High School and followed in her sister, Ann’s footsteps by proudly attending Hendrix College in Conway, Arkansas. After graduating from Hendrix with a Bachelor of Arts in Social Sciences, she received her Texas Teacher’s Certification and pursued a career in teaching Texas History in Sharyland ISD(1954-56) Harlingen ISD(1956-57) and Corpus Christi ISD(1957-68). While in Corpus Christi, a co-worker’s introduced her to his twin brother, Dick Johnson, who was visiting from New Jersey. He quickly became the love of her life and they married in1969 and moved to Dick’s home in Bergenfield, New Jersey. After Dick retired from teaching in New Jersey in 1978, the couple moved to the Houston Texas area and taught in CyFair ISD until they both retired. In 1991, they built their dream home in Westwood Shores, Trinity, Texas and enjoyed life to the fullest. Sadly JoNell lost Dick to cancer in 1996.

JoNell was a very active member of Trinity United Methodist Church and volunteered there tirelessly. She also volunteered at the hospital in Trinity, earning an 800 hour pin. She spent time helping residents in the local nursing home and participated in many civic activities. JoNell loved spending time with her many friends, often hosting get-togethers and celebrating birthdays and holidays. She rarely missed an opportunity to do things for others, often bringing food to shut-ins or ill friends. She drove many a mile to taking people to their doctor appointments.

In 2015 JoNell moved to Carriage Inn in Katy, Texas. She lived there independently and loved the musical entertainment, special events, and new friendships. She especially enjoyed her back porch which faced a courtyard where she was able read and watch the birds and squirrels. In the Fall of 2023, she moved to Larry’s Lakehouse, an assisted living small group home. She was well taken care of by wonderful staff who loved and grew attached to her.

She will be deeply missed by her family and friends, but those who knew JoNell also knew of her great faith in God…so they know where she is now.

John Melvin Milam

John Melvin Milam, age 89, a resident of Foreman, Arkansas died Wednesday, January 10, 2024 in Little River Nursing and Rehab in Ashdown.

He was born October 17, 1934, in Horatio, Arkansas. He served in the U.S. Marine Corp, and was a construction worker and farmer. He enjoyed working with his cows, loved his garden, blue grass music, running dogs at the fox pen and watching bull riding on tv.

John was preceded in death by his wife, Billie Lynn Hurst Milam; his parents, John Henry Milam and Sarah Elizabeth Baker Milam; three children, John C. Milam, Tamara Dossett and Mike Milam; two grandchildren, Beau Curtis Milam and John David Milam; six brothers and three sisters.

He is survived by one grandson, James Milam of Foreman; granddaughter, Jessica Meason of Madill, Oklahoma, eleven great grandchildren; two sisters, Shirley McCorkle of Foreman, Mary and Dub Jackson of Goodwater, OK; one brother, Gary Milam of Winthrop.

Funeral services for Mr. Milam will be held 10:00 a.m., Saturday, January 13, 2024 in the Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel in De Queen with Rick Gregory officiating. Burial will follow at Horatio Cemetery, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home.

Melissa Ann Sharp

Melissa Ann Sharp, 64, of Tyler, Texas, died Monday, January 1st, 2024.

She was born in Daingerfield, Texas on December 4, 1959 to Richard and Barbara Sharp. Melissa attended Daingerfield High School before studying nursing at the University of Texas at Tyler. From there, she went to work as a nurse at Rusk State Hospital for the next 23 years.

Melissa loved life and those she shared it with. The love and care that she shared not only with her patients, but with her family, was a defining characteristic of who she was and always will be. Melissa had the rare gift of making you laugh until you cried while surrounding you with love. She had a laugh that traveled through walls, a kindness that changed lives, and a heart that loved to its fullest.

Melissa was preceded in death by her father, Richard Sharp.

She is survived by her mother, Barbara Sharp; brother, Rick Sharp and wife, Lynette; nephew Jarrod Sharp and wife, Christina; and niece Kaitlyn Buchanan and husband, Dalton.

Wanda Jane McCormick

Wanda Jane Baker McCormick, age 80, a resident of Grannis, Arkansas died Monday, January 8, 2024 at her home.

She was born June 22, 1943, in Wickes, Arkansas. She was a member of Church of the Nazarene in Wickes. She enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with family and working in her garden,

Wanda was preceded in death by her parents, Adolph Baker and Nova Ola Sullivan Baker; her husband, Alfus Wayland McCormick; grandson, Jonathan Ashcraft and granddaughter, Samantha Huff.

She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Mike and Evelyn McCormick of Grannis, Kenny and Cathy McCormick of Grannis; one brother, Alvin Baker of Troop, Texas; four grandchildren, Michael McCormick, Kenneth McCormick, Elizabeth Massey and Erica Ashcraft; a number of great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and a special family friend, Christina Bayles.

Bobby Lynn Butler

Mr. Bobby Lynn Butler, age 83, resident of De Queen, Arkansas, and former resident of Horatio, passed from this life on Monday, January 8, 2024, in Hot Springs, Arkansas.

Bobby was born one of nine children to Bowden D. and Tressie I. Duke Butler on December 10, 1940, in De Queen. He was a graduate of Horatio High School and went on to serve with the Army National Guard. Following his honorable discharge from the service, Bobby went to work as a welder, machinist, and mechanic, working a number of years for Riverside Machine in De Queen. Bobby was also an accomplished carpenter, having built four homes in Horatio and two at the De Queen Lake. Bobby loved to travel, but best spent his time in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, or “God’s Country”, as he called it. He loved it in Wyoming so much he moved there a number of times but returned to Sevier County to care for his brother, David. Bobby was of the Baptist faith and a member of the First Baptist Church. He loved to read his Bible, play his guitar, Corvettes, Mustangs, and spending time with his loving family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Bowden and Tressie Butler; one sister, Linda Bernice Butler; and three brothers, Donald Edwin Butler, David Glenn Butler, and Ronald Royce Butler.

Bobby leaves to cherish his memory, one daughter and son-in-law, Robin and Kevin Hughes of Panama City Beach, Florida; son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Sheila Butler of Hot Springs, Arkansas; a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren; one brother, Kenneth A. Butler of Wilton, Arkansas; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Julia and Gary Kelley of Carrollton, Texas, Glenda and Charles Shooke of Nash, Texas, and Joyce and Pat Gore of Ashdown, Arkansas; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and a host of friends.

Michael Dean Hill

Mr. Michael Dean Hill, age 70, a resident of Dierks, Arkansas died Saturday, January 6, 2024 in Dierks Health and Rehab.

He was born May 28, 1953 in Dierks. He was a logging contractor, owner of Michael Hill Logging and a self-taught master mechanic. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Dierks where he served in different capacities; deacon, worship leader, and taught Sunday school classes. He enjoyed logging, hunting, fishing and working on his farm. He loved watching his grandchildren play sports.

Mr. Hill was preceded in death by his parents, Dillard Dean and Ila Lavelle Artre Hill and one sister, Sandra D. Hill Simmons.

He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Madonna Arnold Hill; one son and daughter-in-law, Damon and Lisa Hill of Fayetteville, Arkansas; one daughter and son-in-law, April and Brian Mashburn of Little Rock, Arkansas; his grandchildren, Taylor Hill, Bailey Mashburn, Rylee Hill, Andrew Mashburn, Brock Mashburn and Corbin Hill; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Janet and Gary Bobo, Cathy and Bruce Francis and Jeanne and Glenn Davis; a number of nieces, nephews and a host of family and friends.

Kevin DeWayne Bailey

Kevin DeWayne Bailey, aka The Famous KB, age 49, a resident of Horatio, Arkansas, died Saturday, January 6, 2024 at his home.

He was born June 17, 1974 in De Queen, Arkansas. He loved his dogs and he loved being in the outdoors. He loved to hunt, fish, go camping and run trot lines with his dad. Kevin loved to work on vehicles, and ride around, but most of all he loved to just spend time with family and friends. Kevin had a BIG heart and a big personality and was loved by so many. The family is grateful to Jennifer, and all his friends that helped him the last couple of years.

Kevin was preceded in death by his mom, Brenda Bailey; and a grandson, Christopher Story.

He is survived by his girlfriend, Jennifer Vincent and her son, Jordan of Horatio; a son and daughter-in-law, Dustin and Tiffany Story; a daughter, LaTosha Story and Corey Coulter; his father, William Bailey; two sisters, Tracy and Junior Ochoa and Tina Bailey; two grandchildren, Alijah and Braxton Story, all of De Queen; two nephews Aaron Vazquez of De Queen and Dayton Ochoa of Horatio; four nieces, Chera Moore of Bryant, Arkansas, Michella Smith of Springdale, Arkansas, Brandi House of De Queen and Brittany Vazquez of Dallas, Texas; his life-long friend, Steven Downs and lots of other great friends.

Peggy Ann Wakley McLaughlin

Peggy Ann Wakley McLaughlin, age 79, a resident of Wickes, Arkansas, died Wednesday, January 3, 2024 at her home.

She was born July 25, 1945 in Umpire, Arkansas. She was a homemaker. She was a Christian. She loved spending time with her family and friends. She enjoyed watching sports, being outdoors and had a passion for hunting arrowheads. She admired her pets and watching wildlife.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard Boyd “Mac” McLaughlin; her parents, Vera and Hubert Baker.

She is survived by one daughter, Kim Garrison of Wickes; one son, Jeff (Annetta) McLauglin of Wickes; one sister, Jone Roe of Louisiana; three grandchildren, Lakyn Cowart, Andrea Garrison and Josette McLaughlin; great grandchildren, Dakota and Chianna, Lexie, Jariah, Zayn, Riley and Bentley.

Willene Gray

Willene Cox Gray, age 88, resident of De Queen, passed away January 2, 2024, at the Dierks Nursing and Rehab Center.

She was born August 26, 1935, in Horatio to the late Willie Clifford “Bill” Cox and Gladys Delencia Romine.

Willene was a graduate of Horatio High School in 1954. She was united in marriage to Oliver Kerwin Gray on August 21, 1954. Kerwin passed away August 28, 2016, having been married 62 years and one week.

Mrs. Gray was a homemaker most of her life, but did enjoy working at Morris TV and Appliance in the mid-80’s and the Wee Center in the late 80’s to early 90’s. She enjoyed bowling in the 80’s on the Tootsie Rolls team with many of her dear friends. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of De Queen.

Besides her parents and Kerwin, she was preceded in death by one brother, Gerald Cox; and three sisters, Glendyne Watts, Adele Swan, and Julia Stanford.

Kenneth Green

Mr. Kenneth Green, age 74, resident of De Queen, Arkansas, passed peacefully from this life on Tuesday, January 2, 2024, at the Sevier County Medical Center in De Queen.

Kenneth was born May 7, 1949, in New Orleans, Louisiana, to Harrison and Mary Green. He attended George W. Carver High School in New Orleans, and later enlisted with the United States Army. Following his honorable discharge from the Army, Kenneth became self-employed to provide for his family. Kenneth was a faithful member of the De Queen Church of Christ, and loved to cook and fish, when he was able. More than anything, he cherished the time spent with his loving family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wives, Ruby Green and Linda Green; and two brothers, Ronald Green and Bucky Green.

Kenneth leaves to cherish his memory, his loving children, Andrea Evans and her husband Brian of De Queen, Jonathan Green of Nashville, Tennessee, Rachel Wyrick of Hope, Sarah Wyrick of Hope, Aaron Wyrick of Hope, Hannah Wyrick of Prescott, and Naomi Wyrick; his grandsons, Brian Evans, III, Harold Green, Elijah Holmes, and Eduardo Jusino; his sister and brother-in-law, Sharon and Kevin Verrett of South Carolina; his brothers and sisters-in-law, Donald and Sharon Green of Louisiana, and Tim and Sharon Green also of Louisiana; as well as number of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and a host of church family and friends.
