The Ventura County Community College District (VCCCD) requires coverage for health and accident insurance for all International Students (F-1 Visa). If you already have insurance prior to enrolling in school, you must provide the name of your insurance company, policy number, expiration date, and policy coverage limits in English to see if your policy can be accepted and waived. There is no guarantee you will be able to keep your previous insurance. If you do not have health insurance coverage, you must obtain insurance in the U.S. prior or upon arrival at the college and prior to your enrollment in classes. After arrival in the US, your policy must be purchased from the district-approved provider.  Information is available for you in the International Student Office.

Waiver Eligibility Criteria and Process

If you meet one of the three requirements below, you can waive out of the GeoBlue plan:

You have existing health insurance through a United States-based company that provides Affordable Care Act-compliant coverage.

You are a sponsored student (SACM, Fulbright, foreign government) with program-provided health insurance.

You have existing health insurance that meets or exceeds the benefits of the GeoBlue plan and includes the following:

Unlimited annual medical benefit

A deductible of no more than $50 per policy year

A network of doctors/medical facilities in the United States (examples: Aetna, Blue Cross, Cigna, Humana, United HealthCare, etc.)

Coverage for inpatient and outpatient mental health treatment (must include at least 30 days inpatient and 30 outpatient visits)

Coverage for pre-existing conditions after a 6-month waiting period

A yearly physical examination, CDC recommended vaccinations, and TB tests

At least $50,000 for repatriation

At least $100,000 for medical evacuation

Covid testing and treatment coverage

       Note: Emergency-only and/or travel plans are not accepted for purpose of waiver determination.

                  For waiver consideration, please email waivers@lewermark.com with a subject line “GeoBlue Waiver                      Application for Ventura College” and include the following:

Name of your insurance company

Policy number

Policy coverage limits and exclusions in English

Insurance document showing current enrollment dates

      Copy of your insurance card
